I am currently on a cutting phase and have been successful up to now, losing around 14lbs while gaining a little strength. I have been doing post workout low intensity cardio for 20mins. I was wondering if I should have my post workout shake before I do the cardio or afterwards because i want to burn as much fat as possible after workouts when my glycogen levels are low.
At the moment i am not having a p/w shake and just consuming complex carbs/protein meal when i get home from the gym which seems to be working well. Any ideas would be great, thanks.

If your going to use a PW shake during a restriction, IMO you should wait twenty minutes after your cardio before drinking the shake. [/quote]
Agreed.
Also keep in mind that over-eating by even 50kcals (ie. basically nothing) will basically completely cancel out that post-workout cardio.
Ok guys thanks for the advice, I will leave it twenty minutes before I have the shake. I am cutting at the moment so im eating way under maintenance and adding pwo cardio to decrease cals even further. Would you still recommend that I have carbs in the pwo shake or just protein as I am cutting, I have read that even just a all protein shake will spike insulin?

The post workout shake should be part of your macros and unless you are totally carb free then post workout would be the last time I’d eliminate carbs. I personally don’t do a shake usually and instead have a meal, but that’s mostly because it makes me feel fuller longer.

so wait, lets say I burn 300 cals on during my cardio and then later that day I meet my needs of 2500 cals but I have a bite of a bros sandwich or something about 50 cals… My cardio was pointless?

I am just having a meal at the moment around 25 mins after my pwo cardio like u stated. I also feel this to be superiour when cutting on such low calories to stave of the hunger that a shake wouldnt provide. Man im hungry all the time ha.

Technically it’s never pointless, as the cardiovascular benefits will be there.
But in terms of numbers, you mentioned 300kcals worth. But 20min of low-intensity cannot produce anywhere near that expenditure. (ie. my estimate was 1/6th of that)
