Just curious what the pros and cons are to the different types of keto diets
TKD - Carbs only before and after workout
CKD - no Carbs untill carb up days
( I dont think this is a keto diet but im still curious about how it works ) Having a regular carb diet throughout the week and no carbs on non training days.
Just curious what the pros and cons are of each and if anyone has had good or bad success with any of these while cutting.
The benefit of the CKD, for me, is that the weight seems to come off faster, the problem is that you don’t get carbs for while. The one where you get carbs periworkout is nice in that you get some energy during your training.
What works best will depend on you and how your body works. If you’re like me and don’t notice any drop in performance without carbs then I’d recommened the CKD.
I am a low carb guy myself and have tried both approaches. I beleive that this mostly comes down to your body fat percentage. If you are around 10% bady fat a TKD (or carb cycle approach) will work well for you. I never lose wieght on TKD but always gain plenty of strength. But if you are well above 10% body fat forget about losing a lot of weight on TKD.
I would suspect just by having that type of excess fat on you frame that your body is suffering from a carb intolerance and just getting down to 10% body fat with a CKD will increase your carb sensitivity. Check out Thibs article on the subject:
I am using this approach to take me down to 10% body fat from 17%. (I will have a log up on this site over the weekend documenting everything with recipes and such). I would point out with particular importance is the explanation on the dietary protein to dietary fat ratio. Thibs makes a lot of sense when he talks about how the body will burn protein if not enough calories from fat are present and eventually start breaking down muscle. (2 grams protein to 1 gram fat)
I personally think that this is where most people have the sluggish feeling on keto diets, they are not eating enough fat. The second thing I want point out is his thought on amino acids as peri-workout nuturition instead of carbs. This shit works and part of it showns up in the anaconda protocol, although what he descibes in the article is sufficent and much cheaper.
If you are eating like total crap currently may I suggest that you do the V-Diet. I don’t think it is the greatest weight loss diet out there (not enough fat in the diet) but do think it is the best rehab you can find for “crap food addictions”
