Propecia and M

I just got a prescription for Propecia. I am 23 and my hair started thinning about a year ago. At the time I wondered if using M had something to do with it because of increased Testosterone, but now I am hearing that high levels of estrogen can cause hair loss as well. My question is would taking M with Propecia help with my hair? If not, is it still safe to combine the two? I loved the muscle hardness I got while on M. Or should I wait and see the effects of Propecia alone? I don’t know how varied individual results are with Propecia. I’m tired of being thin-haired and I’m tired of looking (a little) soft. Any help would be appreciated.

M doesn’t increase testosterone, it just helps keep estrogen production down. Really, well you’d want to find out if M keeps the T from changing into DHT, since it’s the DHT that makes you lose your hair. Someone here could answer that for sure, I don’t think it does.

The only thing I know of offhand that keeps T from converting to DHT is Saw Palmetto, and I forgot but I think that doesn’t work in the bloodstream only inside the prostate. So it wouldn’t help for hair loss.

On another note, my hair started thinning even earlier than you. I just decided to shave it. I figured that was better that than a lifetime on drugs, esp since no one knows the side effects of these druges over that long of a time.

If your head is completely shaved, and you walk around with a bad ass look on your face, people are afraid of you
It also makes a great built in costume: I throw a grey suit on every Halloween and BAM! instant Dr Evil.

But is it an eeevil supplement?

perv,
Propecia (finasteride) is an inhibitor of 5-Alpha Reductase, the enzyme responsible for the conversion of testosterone to DHT (the hormone implicated in hair loss). It can take many months for any positive results to be seen with Propecia. It can even induce a shed in the beginning.
M is designed as an anti-estrogen. It is possible that M, by way of its estrogen inhibiting effect, might cause some increase in testosterone.
I’ve never heard of estrogen being a cause of hair loss. In fact the opposite is probably true.
Propecia and Avodart are the 2 big guns for hair loss. Saw Palmetto may have some 5-AR inhibiting properties.
Do a search on these forums, there have been numerous threads regarding this.

chrisb71 I am with you! I started thinning a little after 19. Between 22-23 it excellerated pretty quickly so I first cut it super short (no guard on clippers) to shaveing it completely off. I think it looks really clean and sharp actually. Now, if you’re huge it makes you look like you beat peoples assess regularly. If you have a little more mid size build and lean it makes you look pretty athletic and smart. I have used pro-hormones but I generally look on drugs that mess with hormonal levels as very scary in the long term. I’m even against women using hormonal birth control as the long term findings are a little suspect. Eating a clean diet with a smart routine for life should keep natural hormonal levels in check and if you go bald doing this then it was ment to be. Nature willed it as such.

This has been discussed here before. Take the M, it will help. You could also use Vitex for the same effects. This was recommended by Bill Roberts to me. He also recommended using 50mg of DHEA with it to help with test and “bedroom” issues. I noticed a huge(no pun intended)difference.

Here’s the thing - you’re body has a devine system for homeostasis. Your ratios of Test to Estrogen to DHT are more or less set (not to say that environmental factors can’t temporarily throw these ratios off).
This is why Estrogen and DHT levels increase with steroid use (when your test reaches a certain level it readily converts via 5-Alpha-Reductase or Aromatization).

HERES THE PAYOFF - if you’re blocking Testosterone’s natural path to Estrogen it is much more likely to convert to DHT, therefore more likely to send you to the rug shop.

FYI - have your Dr. write you a prescription for Proscar, it’s the same active ingredient (Finasteride) at a dose of 5 mg whereas Propecia is 1 mg. Then cut the tabs in fourths or fifths and you save a lot of money.

Peace.

Ricker, that’s my main question,M may be blocking Test’s path to converting to estrogen, but Propecia is blocking DHT, so am I just spinning my wheels, or even making things worse? BTW, the two doctors I consulted never mentioned DHT until I mentioned Propecia. According to them, Thyroid imbalances (shit! I’ve used T-2 and T-2 Pro) and androgen/estrogen imbalances are major factors of hair loss. I’ve read a lot about DHT but this was the first I had heard about estrogen. I’ve still got two bottles of M and will using them even if they don’t aid in stopping hair loss, jsut so long as they don’t make things worse.

Perv, Have you had blood work done? The only way to verify a drug’s effects (aside from how it makes you feel) is to do labs. My Doc’s good this way. Whether it’s Rx or OTC, we do a hormone panel. Total and free T, estrogens, DHT, LH, etc.
