Progress Pics

Just going to share 2 quick progress pics, I am 6’2 and just turned 16. First pic is me at 57kg/126lb. Second is me currently 72kg/159lb. I am happy with progress but a 15 kilo add to mass (with no extra visible fat) made less of a difference than I thought but oh well. Lifting for 5 months. I joined an actual gym 2 months ago, first 3 I was in a home gym which was very limited I had no squat rack etc. Currently on stronglifts 5x5, eating 4000 or close to 4000 calories a day.

Thoughts on progress so far? Also, just curious what weight would I start to look like I lift at 6’2? My guess is around 80kg / 175lb. Hopefully when im 18/19 i will be 6’3, lean at 200lb.

Actually, 15 kilos makes a huge difference. It’s just that you’re still underweight for your height so you don’t look huge. But you’ve made huge progress.

Also, if you’re going to have someone else take the picture, why stand in front of a mirror?

Thanks.

Two reasons for the mirror. 1 its coincidentally where I happened to be in the house when i decided to take the picture, 2 that room has good lighting other rooms have a lot less light.

looking good man, what are your numbers looking like? and keep up the good work

Good job. There’s a very noticable difference in muscle mass.

Good progress. Now keep it up.

Keep doing 5x5 and reap the benefits of young age. Good progress.

To be clear, if that first pic is you at 126, then it’s from like a year and half ago. Right? Two months ago, you were 67kg, so that’s still 5kg gained in about 8 weeks. Good start.

I think you have seen progress in the last couple of months, but pounding down calories will bring even better gains. I’ve said it before, but a young, tall, underweight dude who lifts consistently is in a perfect spot to make ridiculous gains in muscular bodyweight if they get their eating in line.

Very general rule of thumb for guys over 6’ tall is to plan on getting closer to 200 for the “look like you lift”-look. There are exceptions, and leanness will have something to do with it, but that’s the ballpark.

FWIW, I’m 6’2, weigh 210, and don’t look like I lift. Granted, I’m not a lean 210 (probably 17-19 bf), but still some perspective.

A year and a half ago? It is about half a year ago, 5 months and a bit. Yeah I am trying to eat as much as I can. 200lb is pretty heavy, my goal for the end of this year is 90kg, which is just about 200lb. 15kg gain in half a year, there is 7 and a bit months left in this year if I keep it up I will just barely meet that goal. But at the start like I said I was in a home gym, my diet also wasn’t as good as it is now only about 6 weeks ago when I ditched my bro split and got on stronglifts and ate more I started to get proper progress. 67kg when I started strong lifts 6 weeks ago (8 weeks ago, but 6 weeks of actually lifting because I had time off. I was eating maintenance or slight deficit when i was camping) so 5kg gain is good.

I hope to be 90kg end of this year, 100kg end of next year. I will probably bulk until some time mid next year, I will stop at roughly 15% bodyfat. I was 10 when I started and I don’t see any extra fat yet.

I have calipers but I don’t really know how to use them. I examine my fat by pictures, pinching my skin with my fingers, and vascularity. I am more vascular, pinching feels the same, and I have more “abs” than I did before.

In one thread, you mentioned that you did endurance cycling for a few months starting the end of 2012. In another thread, you said you weighed around 125 when you stopped cycling. Maybe there was a miscommunication.

Either way, as I said, you’re still off to a decent start. It’s just about keeping things rolling now. Your goal by year’s end is solid. Stay focused on it, be sure to check your progress regularly (but not too frequently) and you should get there, no prob.

That’s fine to forget about calipers. Even people who’re trained in using them screw up the readings pretty often. Regarding vascularity, that can change due to a bunch of factors (hydration, your last meal, your last workout or simply moving around a lot), so I wouldn’t put too much stock in just that either. Good call sticking with pictures though. They’re one of the most objective measures.

Yeah, I lost weight I was 125 when I stopped cycling. Stopped cycling about 2 thirds of the way through 2013 and not too long after started weightlifting. I was 125 when I started doing weights.

Thanks means a lot. My goal is definitely doable if I stay on track. I was in the gym today with a friend of mine, 6’1 200lb roughly 13% bodyfat. Never lifted before in his life until he got a gym membership a few weeks ago. Mirin as he never even played sport or anything and hes so heavy, all of his lifts blow mine away. Hes greek and thick boned, ive been trying to take note of everyones different genetics and body shapes. Demotivating seeing pretty much a non lifter be twice as strong as me but at the same time it just makes me push harder.

Yeah calipers I found are very easy to make errors in. With vascularity, the only factors that I found which make a difference are whether im hot or cold, and if im doing activity and also what type (if im going 8-12 reps going for the “pump” for example). Veins on my arms are pretty much the same, they were the only veins I ever had. but now I have one on each front delt that does across, a few chest veins (only on pump), lower ab veins. Calf and quad veins starting to come out too. What I gather from this is yeah, I haven’t been gaining fat, (i concluded from pictures its the same) and muscle growth is causing more vascularity.

Sadly I have a feeling once I actually put on size and I cut I will be a roadmap, but oh well.

Gotcha. I had a brain fart then. Sorry about that.

I think I get what you’re saying (not sure how you can take note of someone’s genetics though), anyhow, just tread softly. There’s not always a connection between body shapes and performance. And anything trying to connect ethnic heritage to performance is a total hot button topic of debate.

Definitely focus on this latter part. I know what you mean though. I’ve trained a few times with The Mighty Stu from the forum here. I can tell you, training with pro bodybuilder is a total reality check and ego-killer (neither of those are bad things, BTW). Training with someone who’s better than you at something can be a ridiculously-powerful motivator. You can let it either fuel resentment or determination.
