All of this is explained in the Forever book.
Step 1: run the stairs; get your bearings. Set a clock for 10-20 minutes and just run. Don’t kill yourself!
Step 2: after a few weeks of running stairs, start your clock and run as many as you can in X minutes (usually 10 or 20)
Step 3: write this number down.
Step 4: train to beat that record.
