Programming Chin Ups

But what happens if your working weights are under your BW? Like 65% of my BW plus my max chinning weight would be less than my BW. Lat pulldowns?

Just wanted to report back. This is my second week of changing up the rep scheme, I did 6X4 the first week, and I’m doing 7x4 this week. I like it because each and every one of those reps is a quality rep. Also I’m timing it with 45 sec. rest between. However, I do chin ups twice a week and I’m wondering if I should do this both times or mix it up. Any suggestions?

Also I’m looking to change up my dip rep scheme as well. I’v been stuck at 3x12 for months now and I feel like switching things up will help with the mental aspect and keep things fresh. Thoughts on this, good or bad idea, and possible rep schemes.

Lastly how should I progress? LIke add more sets of 4 to the chins? Or add a rep to each set? THanks a ton guys

If you can do 3x12 dips, then just get a dip belt and start adding weights?

I would add reps to each sets. More reps a set is more difficult than having more sets overall if it’s a weight that you can manage.

@magick, yeah I guess I should get a dip belt. What rep range do you guys like doing dips in? Also those 3x12 are ME, and that last set usually ends up being to failure. So more reps per set would def come at the expense of form.

Also what do you guys think of doing the 7x4 chins on Monday, and weighted chins for 3-5 reps on thurday.

10x3 weighted pullups has done pretty good for me. I bump the weight up after 4 weeks. I also do one unweighted max reps set afterwards.

On the other day, I hit sets of 5 unweighted between every set of every excercise, generally 50-100 a workout.

Works pretty good.

I would keep adding sets personally.
6x4
7x4
5x5
6x5
7x6
6x6
5x7
6x7
7x8
10x8
10x10
Then add weight and start over?
It’s about progressing gradually.
