Prof X, What Do You Eat?

PX-

I’m starting to lose faith in you. These guys are tearing you apart. You’re not using enough big ‘health’ words or siting studies, especially FDA and government studies that they even put on the back of Cap’n Crunch (which is fortified with all the vitamins and minerals YOU’RE NOT getting) which can be part of a healthy breakfast.

Obviously, given your size and the amount of cholesterol and sat-fat ridden steak and eggs you eat, your health is on the verge of collapse.

Christ, the next thing you’re going to say is that you add salt to your food.

Don’t you know most americans get copious amounts of fruits and vegetables? Blueberry Pop Tarts, Spinach casserole, broccoli bread, zucchini bread, carrot cake, apple pie.

What the hell ails you?

It’s only sensible to listen to the bigger guys, or rather, get big using your “studies” so you actually have some degree of grounding before trying to argue against evidently successful people. But that won’t happen, will it?
Reading comprehension fail.

No one is arguing with the big guys about how to build muscle.
No one is saying to eat fruit and vegetables instead of steak to build big muscles.

What is being argued is whether fruit and/or vegetables are necessary for general health. How does being bigger than someone make you more knowledgeable on this topic?
Ah yeah, sorry. I forgot that the T-Nation Bodybuilding Training forum is all about general health. My bad.
How do I know if I qualify as big or not?

Gee, eggs contain zeaxanthin and lutein.

Beta-carotine is found in sweet potatoes…which is what I meant when I wrote that in the first response in this thread.

Are you saying I can’t get the vitamins you listed without spinach?

Nope!
But to suggest that these nutrients can be gotten from other sources, which I presume is anything other then fruit and veg, is just plain argumentative!
Argumentative?
You could pop a synthetic vitamin tablet and that ‘might’ take care of all your needs? Better still, find alternative and inventive ways of getting all your essential nutrients from some other sources (of course if you knew what you were doing, which most people don’t) and skip the obvious most convenient route of simply eating fruit & veg!
Uhm, yeah.
Uhm, no. Bad advice! Vit tabs have a place and so to does every other food but fruit & veg are a very, very important part of optimum nutrition and to say otherwise, well…

This is a thread about nutrition. Which would be better suited for the nutrition board. Anyways, are we not allowed to discuss other topics within a thread that are relative?

Many multi-vitamins (especially the cheaper affordable ones) are likely mostly pissed out or poorly absorbed. I did like Men’s Health vitamins from GNC though.
people say that but that doesn’t mean the vitamins aren’t helping, if you take cocaine you will find cocaine in your piss but that doesn’t mean you didn’t get high?
Oh believe you me cocaine most certainly WILL get you high. Cocaine is one hell-of-a drug!!!

I guess the real question is and the only question that will end this debate is:

Professor X: Do you do coke?? If so, how much and how often?

Why has this turned into a debate regarding veggies. Wasn’t the question, Professor X what do you eat? Not, hey professor X what is the best diet for current health and overall wellness?

I totally disagree and think veggies should be in everyone’s diet, but this isn’t a thread about everyone’s diet, it’s about X’s and what he’s eaten to get where he is today. People are coming here and debating with him regarding HIS diet then getting mad because their belief in what a good diet is is contrary to his own.

Why do you think I am “vitamin deficient”?

Like written before, with the amounts of food I eat, I seriously doubt I am coming up short aside from maybe the really low calorie/carb days.

Why do some of the smallest people here think they need so many vitamins?

Just asking.
i don’t think your deficient in vitamins.

UNpossible!!!

It is UNpossible that yet another bigger than “must eat spinach!” person does not sit around worried about fruit all day.
I never said anyone “must” eat spinach. In fact, I said in my very first post that you could get big and muscular without fruits & vegetables for sure.

Anything I said about eating vegetables was geared towards overall health, not specifically the accumulation of LBM.
My question to you and all others is why this is now being brought into this thread. I already wrote that I was, at my heaviest, drinking a gallon green tea…yet others rush into the thread to act as if they need to inform me of what “anti-oxidants” are or to tell me that apparently we all die if we don’t specifically eat spinach because they didn’t know eggs cantained some of those same “PHYTOCHEMICALS”.

I never said I was clueless…I never said I don’t eat vegetables. So why are people so ridiculous as to look at how I eat in an effort to BREAKDOWN my body as if this is all I eat when I even wrote that this is not how I eat everyday?
Here’s a chance to show your humble side.

I simply asked if you eat fruits/veggies, figured not a lot seeing as you need a lot of calories. Instead of actually answering the question, you spouted off on a tangent. Perhaps your mind set needs to shift just a tad, and not turn everything into an argument. Doubt you will listen though
Dude, get real. You did quite a bit of “tangent driving” when you wrote this:
Sorry, gotta disagree there. Yes, I’m sure you did “fine” for months without fruits/veggies, but lots of people do “fine” eating shit food for years, it will catch up to you.

That being said, I’m sure there are some genetics at play, take for example Eskimos, they didn’t exactly evolve eating citrus fruits
in response to lewhitehurst.

Further, as another poster already pointed out, there is a reason this country sees very few true clinical cases of vitamin deficiency even if the person’s diet isn’t perfect. Not eating fruit directly does not mean someone is not getting any of those same vitamins in from other sources. You would have to literally look at every single thing they put in their mouths all day long to come to that conclusion.

Well, I never said anything like that, nor do I assume you don’t know what anti-oxidants are.

But whatever - It wasn’t my intention to turn a simple discussion of the health benefits of fruits and vegetables into some sort of argument against beef and what nutrients are really necessary to build lots of muscle…

So, in summation - 1) Fruits and veggies are good for you, but you can get many of the same vitamins and minerals from other food sources.

 1. Vegetables DO contain some exclusive compounds that MAY contribute to overall health and well being, but are clearly not required to build slabs of LBM.

 2. Lewhitehurst and Professor X are big.

Srsly? PX mentioned he eats potatoes, there is vitamin C in potatoes. No scurvy. I’m not a science student but I’ll willing to bet that there’s vitamin C available in plenty of food other than fruit or vegetables. People in this thread are acting like every single magic vitamin, minerial or (phyto)nutrient are each only available from one food.

There isn’t any riddle. Obvious to me and probably most others that he doesn’t see them as a necessity and he is asking you what you think is in them that make them necessary.

People need to do research outside of what is spoon fed them by the government and other parties with an economic interest in getting you to think and do certain things.

I eat vegetables and fruits because I like them, but for me, they have not proven to be a necessity as far as my health is concerned. I have said it countless times before - everyone’s body is different.
Perhaps you are the one in need of further nutritional info. IF you think there haven’t been studies done on the importance of phytochemicals or polyphenols in the diet.

I get really tired of the “every body is different” argument. Yes, there are some subtle differences among different people, but as humans the vast vast majority of us have the same needs.

Yes, one person may not react well to caffeine, and another benefit from it, but to say we don’t need veggies/fruits for optimal health/performance is a bit narrow minded.

Not all nutritional advice from the gov’t is wrong.
I am not in need of shit. Everyone is different is a valid argument. If we weren’t, you wouldn’t weigh 60 pounds less than me at the same height and actually be making progress as opposed to coming on the internet to debate what has worked for me and what hasn’t.

Noone said all info from the govt was wrong, but they are the same people who came up with the food pyramid based upon what food producers wanted them to say so that the food industry could make more money as well told us that breads and grains are a necessary food group when human beings did fine without them for millions of years.

I am not going to go back and forth with someone who has nothing to show for all their knowledge. I am done with you. Enjoy staying small and weak.

Holy fuck. No one is debating with him about what he eats. It’s just a discussion of the health benefits of fruits and veggies. No one said he HAD to eat fruit, least of all me.

I don’t give a fuck what he eats - nor am I saying there’s anything inherently unhealthy about what he eats, nor am I saying he’s going to drop dead because of too much cholesterol. In fact, I’m saying the exact opposite.

People just read whatever the fuck they want into posts - I try hard to make sure my points are fair and balanced, yet they mostly just get ignored in the rush to post knee-jerk reactions.

prof is this part of your current eating plan?

Are some of you experiencing some strange reading comprehension phenomenon?

Like I have written before, no matter what I write, all some of you see is “hamburger”.
Stubborn/stupid people see what they want to see and do what they want to do. Viewing situations with an open mind, making changes recommended to you by those who have succeeded, and listening instead of talking are some keys to success, in any facet of life.

Holy shit, this is one of the worst threads I’ve ever read on this site…

Ever. And that’s saying a lot.

I credit my muscle gain to Acai berry.
