Problem with Chinups

Hey, I have some problems with chinups. Basically at some point during the ascent I protract my shoulders to meet the bar.
What do you cue yourself when you are doing pullups/chinups?

Crush bar.
Pull until chin over bar + don’t use lower body.
Repeat.

Chin ups: I drive with the elbows and imagine elbowing someone behind you as hard as possible at the top of the rep and this usually does it so I feel it in my back.
Pull ups: I have to initiate the movement with my scaps to feel it at the top.

It’s pretty much automatic at this point

I try to focus on pulling my elbows down, instead of pulling myself up, to work my lats more than the biceps.

But after a little while, it gets automatic, like Spar said.

ok so elbows down, I was thinking about down and back, maybe that’s the culprit

I was thinking about pulling down and back, maybe “back” is messing me up

I pull down and back for chin-ups, and straight down for pull-ups

I do that exact same thing

Don’t wrap your thumbs

^This. It takes pressure away from your forearms and focuses it on your back, which is what you’re going for.
