For pulling conventional, I think that good mornings, weighted hypers, and deficit DLs top the list of the assistance work that gives me the most bang for my buck. Also, if I squat a lot, I can maintain my DL without training it. The converse, however, does not work for me.
Yet another PR here. I’m going to start keeping track of rep PRs when I return to the real training arena.
Thanks, my squat is crap. I think it is because of low back instability from a old bulging disc. Of course it could also be because I suck.
A LOT of my rep PRs are just crap PR that come from a number coming around I haven’t lifted at in a while.
A cheap PR is sure better than no PR at all, I always say. Something is weak in my squats too…not sure what. If you think your glutes are weak, let’s see some barbell hip thrusts a/k/a air humping!
I don’t own/use a belt either. On the other hand I’m not pulling close to 400lbs either. My progress has been good so far. I’m figuring I’ll bring that in when I start stalling and I need a little mental/physical boost.

You know, I hear about hor great those are but I can’t figure out how to keep the bar from rolling off.

Thats probably a good idea. I might be at the point I need to start using one.

It stays in place pretty well, but you do have to keep your hands on it and grip it pretty tightly. Use of a bar pad IS recommended since the bar rests just below the hip bones.
My low back and glutes and been painful adn sore all week so i wasn’t sure if i was going to be able to squat. I warmed up really well and managed to get it done. I sucked on the money set, I lost focus and started “thinking” about the weight if that makes sense. Going to have to take it as a learning experience.

I’d get one for DL’s and Squats but I really have no idea which sort of belt would be best. There are a surprising amount of belts available.
Any 4-inch 13mm belt will do. People rave about the lever belts - and they are easier to work with - but a cheap one-prong undecorated leather one (which is what I have) works just as well.
Personally I never wear a belt, however I suppose eventually it will be a good idea to. I’ve gotten pain here and there, but mainly have been fortunate with my back. Now my hips… well thats a different story.
I have a nice (tapered) Inzer lever that I just love for DLs and HIGHLY recommend it. It really cues me to use proper form as well as supports my lower back. I’m going to try to learn how to use it to squat.
