Preparing for the next round of fire tests with 5/3/1

It looks like for CFD they have changed over to the standard CPAT due to legal requirements.

The only hard part of the CPAT is the first 3:00, I would suggest you find a step mill and work at being able to maintain the pace. From what I remember of doing it that was the part most struggled with. It goes against all the cardio rules you’re used to (steady state) but if your prepped going in to the 60 steps per minute without holding onto the rails it will help.

Toledo doesn’t look like they have had to step up to the current standard yet (or been able to afford to).

Good luck, if you have any questions let me know.[/quote]

What’s the first 3? Just walking on a stair climber you mean?

Yes “just walking on the stair climber”.

It proves difficult due to the rule of no using the handrails (which I think is idiotic because I have yet to climb stairs in full gear carrying equipment without using the hand rail)

But also the pace since it is controlled you are stepping exactly at 60 steps per minute. My first time taking the test I was in great shape, had done several other combat tests prior all with great times. What threw me off was the first 3 minutes, my first time through I failed the CPAT. Corrected that first three minutes (weighted back pack walking on a stair climber) and smoked any I took after that.
