Pre-Stretch/Warmup Before 40 Clocking

Hi guys,

If anyone knows what stretches are optimal before a race please share and warm-up to be a full speed.

They are timing 40’s today and I want to try and hit a PR today and beat 4.4 by 1-2 tenths of a second.

I want to make sure I am at full speed. I remember something somewhere that said in order to get to full speed you must sprint fully a short distance before a race to get your muscles up to speed.

Anyway, any stretches or warm-up techniques you want to share would be helpful.

Thanks,

hey man. things i have to offer:

-minimal static stretching. it reduces strength by 10%.
-wear lots of warmups to keep ur muscles warm and do lots of active stretching i.e. high knees, kariokes, butt kickers, skips, trunk twists, (you get the idea).
-do a few sprints to warmup - one at 50/60/70/80% and work on driving with the knees and off the calves.

thats all i can think of right now. good luck.

Equus123,

Thanks for the advice man. I hit 4.42 today and is a personal record for me. My fastest prior was a 4.46. The Warmup advice and the heads up about not doing static stretching was GREAT! Thanks for helping me beat my PR. I really wanted to break 4.4 and hit 4.3 or 4.2 but it was cold outside. I had warm-ups on but my legs were not warm enough. I have a new PR today THANKS!

P.S.
Vert: 33"
Bodyfat: 10-11%
Shuttle: 4.2 (<—sucked… need to work on that)

Damn what position do you play? How much do you weight? those are handtimed right or FAT?

If you run an actual 4.42 you’re faster than most NFL running backs. About on par for safeties.

If you run a 4.2 you could outrun almost anyone in the NFL. I’d look into a more credible timing.

Get Lifted,

I recommend you take a look at the Parisi warmup DVD…

cheers,
L

The timing was done by hands. Two coaches, with Two different stop watches.
Coned, narrow, run lane.

I know I could have broke 4.42 if I worked on my starts a bit more. My first step went out to the side, instead of straight ahead, which made me livid. I wanted to brake 4.4.

I am a receiver but in the past have played half back. I expect to be on par with those values. Except, when I get more strength I plan on braking into low 4.3’s.

That Accu-track laser will probably read slower or more accurate rather and that is why I want to get to low 4.3’s or 4.2’s.

I am looking into getting Parasi speed dvd’s or eventually visiting Parasi speed
camp. I actually just found out about them the other day.

I also need to work on more agility or “quicks”. Some size needs to come on as well. (I’m 200 pounds want 20 more)
