Just out of curiosity, does anybody have any pre-lift rituals that they would like to share? Any type is fine, it can be crazy or it can be mellow. Just share with T-Nation! Me personally, I like to do what Matt Kroc does, short bursts of 4 letter words before a set lol. I think it helps me. Like on monday, I hit a new PR on shoulder press by doing that (165x6). Let me in on what you guys like to do to get amped.

If its an exercise that i am doin 5 sets of ten i clap my hands real hard befor ethe set if i am fatigued
For like 6 months after 300 came out I’d say “AROO AROO” before a max
I punch myself in the dick for 15 minutes before a big lift.
Nothing, I have to take a million dumps before big efforts but that happens anytime I get nervous.
I want to make it a ritual of hitting the bong before I lift.

I like to do the Lebron James powder toss…but I use my nut hair that I pulled out moments earlier and shout “I AM THE KING”
I scream “WHO’S THE MAN? I’M THE MAN” at anyone standing around me, crank up the Lady GaGa, and bust out a new PR of 135 in the deadlift.
Oh and I flex and kiss my biceps after I make the lift.

I usually just zone out before a big lift. Like mentally leave the building. I just go with it and figure that, if im mentally prepared and everything’s in order, I should be fine to make the attempt.
not really…a lot of big deep breaths and then dig in and set up hard, squeeze the hit out of the bar and go. Sometimes I will get a little more animated before a bench just to help “get up” (usually sit on the end of the bench jammin out to the ipod while wrapping wrists and chalking up…usually bouncing my legs pretty good at this point and taking the afore mentioned deep breaths. Then I will flare my lats a few times real hard and then lay back and dig in.

Anyone think of sex before a hard set?
Depends on the lift. Almost always involves what muscle(s) I’m working though. Back exercises, I usually “pull myself into” the bar a couple times, kinda crank it in my hands to get that perfect grip.
Front squats, slap my chest with chalk a couple times, partially as a “psych-up”, and partially to keep the bar from slipping. Something about the smell of chalk pumps me up…most likely cuz I associate it mentally with hitting PRs and heavy lifting in general.
But usually I like to just blank out and focus, in a sort of “zoning out” manner for 10-15 seconds before a heavy lift.
