Pre / During Shake

I just went to a personal trainer, who told me pre shake is not necessary if you get a decent meal in 60-90 min before
where i read on the internet a shake is always good
your opinions? would it just be a protein shake or protein / carbs?

and any reviews on adding a during shake and with what in it?

I remember hearing that a large meal 1 hour prior the session was ideal.

Post workout is probably the most important time to down shakes though.
