i was at a friends house saturday early morning we was playing poker and drinking beer. in his garage he had a weight set, for the hell of it i loaded all the weight after that i added it all up it came out to 325 .
i ended up reppin it out for 5 reps , my pervious best would be 320 for 3 . just thought i’d share , this was also after a monday assistance bench and a thursday Max effort bench.
Ive had the same expirience before. I always lift at my house, and usually only rep 225 for around 3 or 4. But when I lift at my high school I could easily put that up.
Usually if I lift in front of people I have that extra drive to lift the weight.
Sometimes with peoples’ home weight sets, the bars don’t weigh 45 lbs. Check it on a scale. You’d be surprised how many don’t. Hopefully this wasn’t the case for you. Congrats on the unexpected PR!
Check the weight like Theta said. I always thought that all bars weighed 45 lbs, so for the longest time I thought that I was putting up good weight, until a friend told me that it felt lighter than in his gym. I put the bar on a scale and it was only 30 lbs. This bar was bought at Sports Authority, just so you know.
I find that when people are around me watching, I get competitive juices flowing, and perform better than when I lift alone. This might also have been it.
On a related note, I only got three hours sleep last night as there was work issue. I had an appointment with my Olympic Weightlifting coach today and was kind of dreading it on my way to the gym. However, it’s amazing how Olympic lifting wakes me up, even when I am dead tired. I actually had a great day in the gym and ended up going really heavy.
