Powerlifting Music

First of, this is NOT another thread on “what is your favorite music while lifting” but instead I have a more specific question:

I just recently compiled a new training CD with Drowning Pool, Disturbed, Mastodon, RATM, Kid Rock and some Rap, which featured a song by 2 gansta rappers about pumping iron (basically it was all about benching and having a big chest/biceps).

The guys at the Oly gym I train at loved it. However, at the same time we were wondering whether there is any music out there which directly mentions strength training except for wannabe gansta rap.

So far I could only find the CaptainsOfCrush song…

below is the complimentary babe for this thread

I don’t know who she is, but I …hot. Very hot. Do want.

Daft punk’s ‘Harder Better Faster Stronger’ is a great song that gets me pumped up. I just hate Kanye so I wont listen to his version.

Why don’t you just listen to death metal as every weight lifting enthusiast should?

Styles of Beyond - 2nd to None

…Rap but I wouldn’t call it gangsta rap, but you might. Reference to the bench press at 1:55.

I do prefer metal if not death metal but the OP was asking for musci about training, this was the best i could think of, Acid bath and Goatwhore dont mention lifting weights very often.

Mannowar isn’t really about weightlifting, but being a warrior and all. And what are we but warriors of the Iron?

Now, for the offtopic - I never, ever listen to music while training. Well, I do, but I have no choice, but if I had, I would train in complete silence, and alone. Doing bodybuilding is ok with all kinda music out there, whatever people like, but bodybuilding workouts are far more easier. While powelifting requires 110% concentration - how can you be concentrated when you cannot even hear your own thoughts?

Doing submaximal warm-up ar a 1RM is NOT a joke, and whatever music is playing in my gym, I become deaf and blind to everything but the barbell.

bad choice of words man, bodybuilding workouts and powerlifting workouts both require max effort.

Now I can just see you startin to type an argument to that so let me point out that while going for a 1Rm requires ALL your concentration, it is all compressed into your 1 rep, or even the warmup. Look at the bodybuilding workouts, tryone again. It takes ALL your concentration to get to the farthest rep you can. A 12 rep max is a long way from a 1RM but requires just as much concentration. If my concentration faulters on a 1RM squat or deadlift I’m pretty much fucked though.

I’ll add to your off topic and say that I dont listen to anything either, my gym plays this really drowsy soft shit like “The Power of Love” and what I suspect to be the soundtrack from the lionking and little mermaid. I have to concentrate just to tune that shit out.

Whats wrong with gangsta rap?

way too heavy, like someone poured acid in my ears. Still, its better than the ballads of lion king or w.e. I have to put up with.

Yay for Drowning Pool, though “Bodies” is the only one that hits home with me.
Bodies by Drowning Pool has always been my max out song for reaching new PR’s. The only correlation would be “let the bodies hit the floor” which is pretty much how I feel after that Max lift.

But the best part of the song is when they’re doing the countdown in the song. As they’re counting down I start prepping for the lift, wrapping the wrist wraps around the bar for the deadlift setting up for the lift.

Hope this helped somewhat

SHIT-MAN! haha thats the best song ever. Fist time I heard the song it was watching a youtube vid with some anime chick killing people the whole song. ‘Bodies’ just rocks.

How bout ‘Papa Roach’ and their ‘Last Resort’. Its fucking emo but gets me jacked.

For anyone who wants to listen right now…

Suffocation
Pantera
Ion Dissonance

Btw. Ion dissonance is pretty good live.

Saw the bit about ‘bodies’ for hitting PR’s and have to agree. I like ‘wait and bleed’ and a few other Slipknot songs when I’m getting heavier and need a little bit of anger to get through the set.

Other songs that help are:

I stand alone - Godsmack
Silver - Machine Head
Go to sleep - DMX/Eminem
Till I collapse - Eminem
Dig - Mudvayne (among others)

Saw a vid of Pudzianowski training that had Never forget me by Bone thugs and Lord gimme a sign by DMX. Listening to those helps me channel a little Marius (I wish!) before my next set.

Bodies by Drowning Pool is such a terrible song. A retarted monkey could write better lyrics than them.
