It’s a really good movie, straight up. Even if you’re not into powerlifting and you prefer something ghey like, oh I dunno, Oly lifting, you’ll still enjoy it…
Best part by far is anything that Captain Kirk says.
I agree. Oly Lifting is really gheeeeeeey.
I know eh? It all comes to a sudden reality when I find myself feeling quite cool in my yellow spandex and wooden high heels. All the bending over and heavy breathing really adds that homosexual texture.
But then it gets slammed back into heterosexuality like a evangelical christian ex-gay intervention when we do the “snatch.”
The jerk could go either way though. That ones really up to you and the internet.
You know what they say: “put some rubber on that bar and jam it up there!”

Face it, all forms of weightlifting have homosexual overtones. Bunch of guys, alone in a room, sweating with minimal clothing. Sounds pretty homosexual to me, not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I actually wear my competition gear to the clubs. I find its a great ice breaker and conversation piece.

Yeha i always lift with my singlet these days. I may have pants and a shirt over it until i get too hot. I reckon its good to get used to it and it keeps my balls in place so they dont get smoked by the clean pull.

scott mendelson made that movie
Why did they cut out the part when Kirk is asked when he’s going to stop? His answer (“Until they drain my blood and replace it with embalming fluid I’m gonna keep doing this!”) was awesome.
^ Very end

scott mendelson is my dad
12,000 calories/day
10 gal Gatorade/day
That’s commitment.
“Benchin is like soccer. Everyone can do it. That’s why it’s popular!”
did anyone else think that porky dude Scott was annoying as hell?
Did anyone believe a word Mendy said during that film?
12% bodyfat? Yeah, maybe on his chin alone.
10gal of Gatorade?
Best bencher ever?
THere wasn’t any love at all for Kennelly in that film. See his 515 raw smoke show tho?? ![]()

Yeah I was wondering about Kennelly also throughout the entire bench specialist segment. Either he didn’t care about talking to the film makers or they didn’t care about talking to him, either way he is for sure in the conversation for best bencher.
Thanks for the link- great movie- I did feel a little guilty about not actually buying the DVD, but then I couldn’t find it on the usual places online so that allayed my guilt.
great respect for the SHW lifters, but I felt uncomfortable watching Mendelson talk. he seemed so out of breath and just… unhealthy.
he can also bench raw more than i can deadlift, so…

Kennelly wasn’t that big at the time. The movie is a couple years old at least (I saw it 2 years ago, I think it came out 2 years before that). At the time, the battle of the bench was between Rychlak and Mendy.
I loved the movie.
Is there gonna be another one?

It would’ve been a better movie if they added you as a commentator. I’m serious dude, you can be a stand-up comic in strength sports.

Ed Coan and Kirk Karwoski are already there. Aren’t you satisfied?
The fact that they showed just a glimpse of Louie Simmons is enough to make me happy.
What I wanna see now is something that is dedicated with olympic weightlifting…
It was made in 2006, which means they were covering everything up until 2006 if you consider all the producing/editing time. Thats probably why they did not include our current behemoth lifters
Fuck that bench accident; you could see the bar sinking into his face
