Powerlifting Goals

Okay, I have been powerlifting for about a year and I need to set some new goals.

Stats: 242lbs wt. cls. Raw + Belt
Wt at comp. 225lbs and 22 years old
Squat 530
Dead 617.2
Bench 385 (at the moment) Law school sucks!

So here are my new goals:
Squat 600
Dead 700
Bench 425

Going to try and compete at the end of the year. Do I have to high of goals?

Respectfully,
Ant

there’s no such thing as a goal too high. post a video of the three lifts you have now and I will tell you if your goals are unrealistic. Gym #'s and competition #'s are usually very different.

Good luck. your raw lifts right now are impressive for your age and weight and you could easily place high or win at an average local meet right now if you wanted to. As for your goals for the end of the year, if you have the time and motivation I think you can hit all your numbers. It won’t be easy though, you’re heading into the kind weight that typically slows a lot of people down.

I think the deadlift goal may be a bit high but go for it. 80 pounds in the next 10 months is going to be tough but you may surprise yourself, I put 60 lbs on my deadlift in less than 5 months at one point. The bench press goal is doable as long as you take care of your shoulders.

Squat is attainable but will take a lot of consistency to get 600 at 225. it took me a year and half to go from a 545 squat to a legit 600. overall my 2 cents is to create a year long training plan today that cycles through 3 or 4 different training methods and takes into account breaks needed to accommodate the likely wear and tear on your body.

From there, its just matter of tweaking it along the way, staying healthy and being consistent in your training. Also work on your technique on all three lifts. You’d be surprised how much more weight you can put up simply by perfecting your stance, setup, grip, etc.

You sure are right about law school sucking. I am in slw school myself and my lifts have not improved as much as I would have liked. I’m in my third year so I am getting back on track b/c I have so much more time. Good luck.

solid goals!

its nice to see some one with a set plan shooting for good numbers

I dont see this enough

I think those are realistic goals, though still ambitious enough to struggle for. You’ve got some solid unequipped lifts under your belt already. Keep doing whatever your doing!
