Powerlift Exercises Explanation

Hi guys,

I’ve been reading a lot of articles on this forum before actually becoming a member. I’m interested in incorporating olympic lifts in my workouts, I already do squats, deadlifts, lunges etc. but I want more  The challenge is ensuring that I have the right technique and how to learn the technique properly. Are their any articles that explain in detail how to do them, along with video. I don’t have anyone at the my gym who actually does olympic lifts so I’m kinda on my own here.

Thanks for the help

Christian Thibaudeau and Dan John have both written some articles on this site on the Oly Lifts. I believe Dan John also sells a video series that is pretty good. I know that CT has an article that has pictures and maybe even some video.

Another path is to go to youtube and search olympic lifts or whatever lift you’re interested in. There are all kinds of clips of world class atheletes doing their workouts.

Finally, you might post your question in the strength sports forum. That’s where a lot of these people “hang out”. I also frequent another forum that has an olympic lifting forum that is moderated by Glen Pendlay, who runs one of the premier olympic lifting programs (particularly for juniors) in the US. If you’d like info on that, PM and I’ll send it to you.

Thibs Black book has some good stuff on learning the O-lifts, along with a begginers program.

There are a few articles, which escape my memory, that have oly lift demos in them. And, I regret saying this, but the Crossfit site has some videos of chicks demonstrating the O-lifts.

I learned them from practicing and watching videos, over and over and over again.

I have added power cleans to my routine and the occasional power snatch and hang clean. imo they have made a big difference to my squat and deadlift strength.

has some great videos

Here’s an article by Charles Staley & Keats Snideman featuring variations of the clean and snatch pulls. It includes videos.

Thanks guys, I’ve looked at some video and I also found through other posts with same subjet (sorry!) more videos and descriptions.

I would prefer to have a session with a coach just to get the basics. Anyone from Montreal who knows where I could get a session???

Crossfit has a pretty extensive video library…

Started some powerlifting basics today and just hang cleans and very low, ridiculously easy weight (55 lbs) but I need to start somewhere. I do however still want to get a sesssion with a powerlifter so I can learn them properly…trying to find one in Montreal???

But so far I fell in love with powerlifting! I think it will really help my overall strength, explosiveness, improve my paddling (I paddle on an elite dragon boat womens team)

Even though It wasn’t heavy I could still feel the muscles working, technique is everything right now so I figure proper technique…good for the muscles.

I’ve also started splitting my leg days, for now 2 or 3 that I will incorporate with my upper body program 2 days out of the 3 I will add legs and one leg day alone (4 days of weight training, plus 5 days of cardio, plus 1 day of paddling, plus team plyo training…I think is enough)

My hammies are weak compared to my quads (many many miles of road biking as well) so I am also concentrating on hammies with one of CT’s hammies program (I think its from him)

If you go see my post in vixens’ sorority you’ll understand the determination… BRING IT ON!
