Haven’t been doing these but I managed to get a solid 10lb PR but it wasn’t pretty and I caught it pretty low.
Thing I see are:
Poor head position - I have established the very bad habit of looking down when starting my pull from the floor that usually ends up with me leaving the bar forward. I never miss behind.
Not preserving back angle - I think my hips are coming up a bit faster than my shoulders.
Hitting too low - I was trying and I still think I’m hitting a bit low on my thighs and not waiting long enough. This may be what is making me miss forward and it was really noticeable near my max weights in the above video.
As a plus my speed was better and I was noticeably pulling under some of these which I usually don’t do as much when power snatching.
Please give me some feedback as I think I can get over 200 with some form fixes.
I watched again and I could see myself forcing myself to keep my head up. I actually did better than I thought I did.
I still think there is a bit to much swing to the bar and I’m not keeping it close enough. I still think this is because I am going when the bar is to low on my thighs. The bar ends up way too far out in front and is really hurting my attempts.
Can I widen my grip to fix this? Is is simply a matter of waiting longer before exploding?
I’m far from an expert and have just started using hang snatches but from what I see, your lower weight attempts don’t look too bad. Anytime you approach max weights, your form will break down or it isn’t a true max. In essence, get stronger and you will have better form as with lower weights.
FYI, if you are curious why I am doing hang snatches instead of from the floor, I read the Tao of Boyle where he mentions doing that instead of from the floor for linemen, etc. I’m not a lineman but am 6’1 and when I deadlift, my upper back is very rounded which is great for deadlifting and not so great for other things. I can’t keep my entire back straight enough to have even decent form when doing PC or snatch from the floor. So I choose to do the hang snatch.
It looks good unless u want to specialize. start the pull with ur butt lower and focus on keeping ur back as straight as possible and load the hamstrings and explode up after it gets past ur knees. when u get to heavier weight u slow down when the bar gets to ur chest compared to ur lower weights, it should at least be as fast as lower weight, always think about moving fast. your catch height looked pretty good from what i saw

It doesn’t look too bad imo. Look about 3m in front of where your feet are. Your still looking down a bit but your head isn’t tilted down as much but it’s not a big issue from the video imo.
It’s not so bad but it could be tighter. I need to work on this myself at limit weights!
It’s just delaying the 2nd pull and keeping your body more upright.
Your missing it forwards as your not keeping it close enough/ not finish the pull properly when it’s heavy. It’s harder to finish the pull on a heavy PS then a heavy Snatch inmo.
You should pull under the bar regardless of weight. You don’t do this on the lighter weights. You should drive up hard and pull under hard also so you get use to the ‘receive’ position.
Looking good and I like the outdoors action and the red cap! Solid lifts mate!
