Pour Some Sugar on Me

Do you bench with your feet flat and immobile, Strick? Cause that’s required. I find it very hard to have everything “locked in” (ass on bench, feet flat and immobile, shoulders on bench, head flat) and then reach back to lift off the bar without screwing up the tight setup.

If you can do it all, Strick, you’ll be miles ahead of lots of us.

Yes, rack height is adjustable.

Sorry for the hijack, O.

I knew this initiative was being voted on. I think it’s to more closely align the sport of powerlifting with Oly weightlifting? I could be wrong, however.

Personally, my weight class doesn’t change. I’m a 52 kg-er. But I usually weigh in about 50. I had considered cutting to 48. But there’s no way I’m dropping to 47 kg (103.4 lb.). But I’m not an elite lifter like you, O. [/quote]

For reference, here’s the proposed weight classes from ouroboro’s post:

Men
58/66/74/83/93/105/120/120+
women
47/52/57/63/72/84/84+

In o-lifting right now, the weight classes are
Men
56/62/69/77/85/94/105/105+
Women
48/53/58/63/69/75/75+

We have had two weight class adjustments since the late 80’s. There’s also talk of adding a weight class at the top.

By the way Julie, since its your thread, I’d like to say your lifting is simply astounding. I read here often, but my mouth is usually hanging open so far in amazement that I can’t get my hands on the keyboard to type a comment.

I don’t bench with my feet flat, but they don’t wander, except when I have a cramp
I know that many, if not most, feds require heels down. I am up on the balls of my feet, as that was the advice given to me by MarauderMeat. I don’t think they have to be down in his fed, but I am not sure.

That aside, since you do have to have your heels down, I can see where that might be an issue. One thing that I do, since I never get a liftoff, is setup really close to the posts. It lessens how far back I am reaching to unrack. Of course, it also increases the chance of tagging the rack on the way up.

When I bench, next Sunday, I will try it, heels flat, just to see what the difference is to me. I have no doubt that there will be some. Just wondering how much.

I think the new bench rule is awesome. I am fat and don’t have much of an arch. And my feet stay planted. Welcome to my world, people.

Love it!
I have to look at the rules again, but I’ve never had a problem keeping my entire butt on the bench. I can’t flex if it’s half in the air. The no lift off thing scares me though.

Thanks very much for the lovely compliment. That makes me feel very good

It’s been interesting reading the discussion that’s been sparked in a few people’s logs and in the powerlifting section about the impact the confirmed and proposed changes will make. Ultimately, it’ll be what it’ll be. I’m kind of regretting not registering the provincial records I got last spring because now I’ll never take the old ones.

I was benching with this in mind tonight but I don’t know if I made any significant changes to my arch. I definately didn’t do my own lift off.

Tuesday November 9

Bench
45-10
65-5
95-3
115-1
135-5 shirt on bar about 2" off chest
155-3
175-2 (rep PR)
195-0,0
185-0,0 I thought for certain I’d get this tonight. It’s so close. If my right arm extended another inch or two I would have moved it through the sticking point.
165-1 signals
155-2x1 signals

Squat - high bar, narrow stance
135-5
155-5x3

DB Bench
45-8,6,6,5,5

Good mornings
155-5,5
After the second set, BB suggested we play the good morning game. Add 20lbs each set and do one less rep. Sooo…
175-4
195-3
215-2
235-2 20lb PR but they were ugly

still 235 lbs good morning is strong stuff.
and nice bench PR too.

Thats a hell of a good morning Julie.

Great work all the way around.

The lift off thing is not as important as we all think.
I have lifted off 135 with no assistance many times.LOL

I have the feeling that if this liftoff stuff sticks it will be changed very soon.
I only know of a handful of benchers who handle the weight themselves. This is stupid.

ouro is just a lazy ass that could have had 185. She is getting F’N strong though.

BB

My coach, who is a Cat 1 IPF judge, told me this morning that the liftoff proposal did not pass. We can all breathe a sigh of relief.

I bet the makeup sex that ensues as a result of the fight over this comment is really good.

I seem to recall something about benching wearing knee-high socks with little bows and having her hair in pigtails. Wear this, then get in a fight, then the real hoochie-coochie can start.

Or it might have been a dream I had…hard to say.

Friday November 12

Squat
45-10
115-5
155-3
195-1
235-3 suit on/straps down/no wraps
265-3 "
275-3x3 "
295-1 " This is a 20lb PR with suit bottoms/no wraps. Before tonight, I’d only ever done 275 once before.

Bench-light
45-10
90-2x12

DB OH Press
25-10,10,16

DB row
52-10,10,20

It didn’t go too badly considering that I wasn’t feeling it at all starting out tonight. I must have slept funny last night because it hurt to move my head towards my right shoulder.

gotta be something said for a neck cricked PR! a 3x3 at the previous max PLUS a 20# PR

20lbs PR, wtg!

Hey Julie - I was wondering how bad the fainting issue was if your holding your breath while lifting?

Sunday November 14

Deadlift
135-5
225-3
275-1
315-1 straps up
335-1 "
365-1 "
385-0,0 The first one I got to just below the knees but then it stopped moving. BB says my set up wasn’t great and I didn’t sit back into it. I’m kind of disappointed but kind of not. Every other time I got something that high, I’ve locked it out the next time I tried it. Also, I started the day developing a migraine with the accompanying aura and took some tylenol with codeine to forestall it so I can’t imagine that helped too much.

Snatch grip dead lift
135-10 hook grip
155-10 hook grip
175-10 straps
195-10 "
215-9 straps and belt

I started seeing rainbows around the lights. When I pull heavy like that, it makes my eyes weird for a while.

CG bench
45-10
95-3x8

weighted sit ups
10lb db behind the head
3x20
