whoa! nice PR - looking forward to your next meet!
So close on that 185! Looking Good, Mizzo.
Is that the deload? I think you missed the point. ![]()
Nice benching by the way.
That is the craziest arch. But is your ass on the bench? Is it required in your fed?
Nice work, as always, O.

That’s not an arch, that’s a bridge!!!
Got to agree with Kp though it does look on certain reps as if your bum is off the bench.
Great lifting all the same.

Yes, ass must be on the bench, feet must be flat on the floor. It’s IPF after all
I changed from sweats to shorts to make sure my butt was on the bench. It’s is on them all except perhaps the 185 where I’m really pushing to get it up. I’m able to arch and keep my cheeks down. It’s something I’m pretty aware of and when I train in a group, I have someone watch both that and my feet. The rule is that your butt must be touching the bench; it doesn’t have to be supporting you. My legs take my weight and drive the bar but my butt touches. That’s why on multiple reps, it’s shakey and wobbley. It’s not a set up designed for more than a single really. If you think of it in terms of a house, my legs and shoulders are the load bearing elements, my rear end merely touches.
Of course now BB tells me there’s a rule that a certain percentage of your bum has to touch but he’s never heard of anyone red lighted for having below x% touching. He says he’ll find me the rule. Mostly, there just can’t be daylight showing. That’s also why I never chalk my butt because it gives the illusion of coming up.
The farther down I pull the shirt, the tougher it is to get a big arch so when I jack the shirt more, I’ll flatten out a bit. What makes me sad is that even with that arch, I can get more weight up.
This is a video of our provincials last year. I’ve got the arch but the angle isn’t the same. Bench is a minute or so in.

That starts on Sunday Mr. Smarty Pants.
I agree with the pale one, you are very very close to 185.
Was it wrong to be watching that video and thinking “nice shorts”? While, of course, appreciating the strongness.
I think the ass % rule is a proposed rule. I sure hope they don’t start measuring asses for percentages of “on the bench-ness.” My lower cheeks are always in contact, but like you, they don’t support me. My upper cheek is nowhere near the bench, and I don’t think I could even get it on there, with my feet on the floor, if I tried.

If this is wrong, I don’t want to be right.
My coach, who is a Cat I IPF judge, told me the rule is 50% of the buttocks. However, I think that O is 110% right that no one gets called unless daylight is showing.

My question to BB when he brought it up is what qualifies as ass. Where does it start and where does it end? Do they measure the crack? Is that what quantifies it? Seriously. I’d need to see how they outline it. I think it might be hard to define.
I feel a song coming on…

I think the boys should answer this one.

Seriously, the bottom of the curve of my lower back, is that the top of the ass? Because there are several inches where there’s no crack up there. And what about the poor old men who have no asses?

I know right? They might have to do a crack measure when you weigh in.
I was just watching some of your old youtube bench videos. I’m not sure why they get the guys so bent out of shape. Your arch is the one I’ve always aspired to have so if my ass crack isn’t IPF legal, I blame you.
BB Very kindly sourced the IPF link for what is and isn’t acceptable for bum position. I’m not good. I need more bum/bench contact.

I was wondering where the hell you went. Come back over to PW and hang out ![]()
And I just watched your bench video. Nice! What shirt are you wearing?
Going to have a judge with their face down there checking the butt positioning. Should lead to some amusing photos and questionable calls.

I thought I’d come hang with the elderly crowd.
I’m wearing a super katana that I inherited from another local lifter. She was never able to wear it so it was brand new. I got it from her last spring and it was a bit much for me at first but I’m getting a lot out of it now and should get a shit ton more once I get it dialed in.
