Does drinking a pot of coffe every morning, then drinking lots of diet soda help you get fat? I know there was a caffeine roundtable here but I still want to know what you think. I do this and I have had a hard time losing fat, especially oover the last few years when my weight has shot up a bit.
T-mag has had articles in the past regarding studies that show chronic caffeine consumption causes insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is one of the major factors in obesity today. So if you’re a big caffeine drinker and you have trouble losing fat there’s a distinct possibility that you’re insulin resistant. The big plus is that is doesn’t take very long (at least in my experience) to shift the balance after going off of caffeine. You may get the classic caffeine headaches for a few days, but your insulin sensitivity should come back fairly quickly (assuming your diet is locked on). As long as you limit your consumption to one or two cups of coffee two or three times a week insulin resistance shouldn’t set in again. I hope this helps.
actually its good for you! ignore what you have read in the past in regards to caffeine being bad, insulin sensitivity, bla bla bla.
i would drink two pots of coffee, and 4-5 two liters of soda per day. the thermogenic effect from all the caffeine will have you ripped in no time!
Caffeine may act as an appetite suppressant, causing you to take in less calories in the morning. For example, I work with many people who will drink about 24-30 oz. of coffee all morning, maybe eat a bagel at some point, and not sit down for a real meal until about 1 or 2 p.m.. These kind of eating habits will definitely make it harder to lose fat, because your metabolism is going to suck.
Bottom line, you can drink a pot of coffee every day and still have a strict diet and you should be fine. However, if coffee interferes with your ability to keep a proper diet, it will have negative effects on your progress.

“There’s nothing like that first, piping hot pot of coffee in the morning. Oh, I’ve tried other enemas…”

Caffeine also works as a diuretic.which will help purge your body of excess fluid, helping you lose “water weight”.But I admit, I don’t know how much coffee is too much. Perhaps Shugart or Berardi could offer thier thoughts.
I think Rathman has a strong argument, although the anecdotal evidence is there too.
Lack of hydration and it’s effect on fat loss has been talked about on the forum before. If you’re dehydrated there’s a concensus that suggests you won’t be able to lose as much fat.
Conversely, there’s anecdotal evidence that suggests increasing your water intake and therefore your hydration levels is an effective means of losing fat in as painless a manor as possible. A pot of coffee a day won’t allow for that.
The other thing to condsider is why you need that much caffeine? If it’s because of the lack of sleep, the insulin resistance, cortisol increases and lack of anabolic hormone production could be impaired causing fat accumulation or difficulty decreasing fat mass.
Just don’t ask me for the references.
Building on what Rathman said, I read once that caffeine causes your liver to dump sugar into the bloodstream. Anyone else ever hear this or read any studies linking this to insulin resistance?
i agree with rathman. Waaay too much caffeine.
soda and coffee?
Soda is pure shit. You might as well get a 5lb. bag of C&H granulated and spoon it into your mouth. It will probably rot your teeth slower than high fructose corn syrup.
