Not at all. The most important albums, the most influential albums will often transcend genres.

I would definitely consider Depeche Mode “Speak and Sell” up there, but it was released more than 40 years ago. I would also probably consider Kraftwerks “Autobahn” just ahead of it.

I bet most people can’t think of half of the Beatles’ albums. Even my grandma, who was a teenager in the 60s, probably can’t. Even though Thriller is now over forty years old, even my younger brothers (teenagers) know Thriller, Beat It, and Billie Jean. Maybe it’s not on the level as the Beatles BEST music, but it’s definitely going to continue to stick around. Michael, like R Kelly, abused children but unlike with R Kelly, no one’s boycotting MJ, because of how great he was.
