I want to include some cardio after my weight workout and I was wondering when I should drink my P/C shake? Should I have it right after the weights and then do cardio or wait till after the cardio or do half and half? I’ll be doing intervals like in C.T’s Running Man article for fat loss.
Thanks
Talk half a serving during your weight workout and the other half immediately following your sprints/intervals.
If you were doing “traditional” cardio on the bike or treadmill for 20-30 minutes at a low intensity, you would take your post-workout shake immediately after weight training and before the cardio.
Since you’ll be doing sprints/HIIT training, you’re better off doing half during and half after.
since your goal for the postwork out shake is glycogen replenishment in your trained muscles then you should have it before-during-and right after you finish training. you can do your intervals then. laters pk
If the main goal of your cardio is fat loss, then I would recomend that you take the shake after the cardio.
If you take the shake after the resistance training and before the cardio, the energy you will be working off are the carbs you just drank. No advantage there.
If your glycogen stores are all used up and you are worried about burning up muscle in the cardio, maybe drink a little protein to start the recovery and wait until after the cardio to drink the rest of the protein and all the carb.
Some thoughts are also to wait 20-30 minutes after the cardio to take the drink. By doing this you make sure that your body has used up all of its energy stores, gives the fat burning process more time to do its magic, and then you can replenish the glycogen and protein stores.
Also something to consider. When your insulin level is very low after a workout, or after sleeping, your body secretes more hGH, Growth Hormone. So, if you wait 20 minutes after the cardio to replace the glycogen, you will have more hGH release.
Just my 2 cents.
