Post Workout Carbs

Would it be effective (compared to maltodextrin) to use honey or maple syrup in a post workout shake for glycogen repletion?

No both are very high in fructose which has to be processed in the liver prior to being used to refill muscle glycogen. Both are good forms of sugar if there is such a thing but not great for that PWO shake.

Poor as a substitute for mal. I’m assuming you mean here, right Phil? Because given the option of soda, both of these would be superior–correct?

I really like honey as a sweetner and eat it pre-workout with peanut butter often.

The highest levels of glycogen replenishment came from combinations of fructose and maltodextrin, dextrose. Poliquin often puts in fruit juice up to 40% in his shakes because it drives the insulin response the highest.

Your liver will always FILL UP first then your glycogen.

So its ok to throw in alittle of the stuff you like on top of a source to give to your muscles.

Cool, thanks guys. Yeah, I read an article where Poliquin states that he uses grape or pineapple juice for 40% and then something like Twin Labs ultrafuel for the remainder.

LOL well thats like saying here you have two choices of what to eat a pile of shit or a pile of mud. Both not great one very shitty.

Yes it honey real honey can be great at other times. Loaded with nutrients etc.
