Superfood just arrived at my house. I had a question however, does this contain any calories/carbs? What exactly are extracts?
so you bought something you know nothing about? i need to get in the supplement business
I thought thats what Biotest preferred. I just buy all their products because it makes me feel better about myself. They don’t care as long as I’m buying it.
Now someone answer my question.
touche. extract is just what it sounds like. They are claiming to extract or isolate and take out the nutrients from the fruits and veggies listed on the label and sell it in a digestible powder form. The label is deceptively simple, but my general understanding is that the caloric content for extracts on a per serving basis is close to zero.
I gave up trying to find out from them a while ago and am just finishing my tub and am not going to buy it till they fess up on the details.
The other greens products out there do give a breakdown. I came up with my own way of estimating the nutrition info:
all fruits and veggies (in general) have the following breakdown by percentage.
p/c/f - 30/50/20 (average of all)
and since fibre is ranges from 30-70% (simple avg = 50%) of CHO. a rough breakdown would be:
5gm serving
p- 1.5 gm
c- 2.5 gm (Net CHO after fibre= 1.25gm)
f- 1.0 gm
the article says its actually fruits and veggies dehydrated and compressed so essentially they are still in the same form just without water.
The guy who answered my call said that this stuff was extremely similar to green product capsules issued by a guy named Andrew Lessman (if anyone has ever heard of him before, he sells vitamins and things via one of those home shopping networks)
I would much rather take capsules than drink the stuff, but thats just my opinion because I don’t like tea. The stuff makes me seem to feel better but I dunno.

I’m not sure to whom you spoke, but this couldn’t be further from the truth.
All the ingredients in Biotest Superfood are freeze dried. All of the encapsulated greens products that I’ve seen are either drum or air dried and don’t have anywhere near the same ORAC value.

Two things.
What the christ does it matter what the macro breakdown of a 5g serving is?
Are you really that anal about your calories? I doubt it.
Secondly, where did you get that breakdwon from? As I understand it, fruits and most veggies contain only trace amounts of fat and only slightly more protein, with the vast majority of macros being carbs.
However, even the actual amount of carbs is tiny, since most of the bulk of the fruit/veg is fiber.
So in actuality, from 5g of superfood, you may get a tiny amount of calories, no protein and no fat.

I would have been ripped if it wasn’t for that 5 grams of Superfood I was splurging on every day.

hey bushy
I didnt get that breakdown from anywhere, it’s just that blueberries have more fat than veggies and watermelon has more carbs etc so i kind of took an average in my head. Some veggies like spinach have about 68% of cals as pro (calorieking.com).
youre right on the fibre issue and like i said i jst took an average since some have less and some have more.
And no i’m not to concerned about the cals in a serving but i do like to know this kind of stuff (information/ethics geek).
I did post this breakdown earlier in the original thread, it got edited by mods i guess and i got a PM from one of the mods saying i was close to the amounts and that they would be releasing info soon. (this was over 3 weeks ago)
Lastly, i’m sorry it pissed you off since you are one of the more helpful vets out here.
I do find it interesting that the details about Superfood are very
surface level. I would be interested in the break down to make sure this is worth the $$$.
Reminds me of being in church as a kid; God just exists! And he loves you! Now, Believe!
Super concentrated extracts of a bunch of different types of healthy foods. What is so hard to understand?
Is it healthy to eat any of the stuff in this? This is just a convenient way to get more of the good stuff into your diet.
I have to admit I needed this. Try as I might, I never did get enough fruits and vegetables into my diet.
As far as calories, sounds like minutia.
As far as taste, I mix it into a crystal lite orange drink. It has become my morning OJ. (I think Superfood tastes a hell of a lot better that way.)

LOL, sorry if I sounded pissed. I was a little, just because superfood is the kind of product that I have waited for for years. I never got on with the whole ‘greens’ idea. Superfood, with its tasty ‘fruit tea’ appeal and convenient serving size/method (not to mention the snazzy packaging, lol) is much more suited to me, and I just couldn’t see why anyone would give a fig as to the macro breakdown. It seemed needlessly trivial to me.
If it is as you say, a personal ethics kind of deal for you, then I apologise for getting steamed up. You have every right to want to know what you put into your body.
All the best,

Thats pretty why i bought the stuff too, a sort of cover-your basic-nutrition product, but then i started on the Anabolic Diet and like any newb, i was paranoid of breaking the 30gm CHO barrier with something this helpful.
Best of luck with your hearing !!!

I agree. I love this stuff. I feel better when I take it and now I don’t have to take a multi any more. I drink it in the morning with 6oz. of grape G2 low calorie Gatorade. I’ve waited a long time for something like this to hit the market.
