Hi everyone, new to this platform. Didn’t even know it existed until I got injured and started to look for answers.
3 weeks ago I injured my right pec doing various chest exercises. It might have been after dips when I really felt pain.
No popping or tear sensation.
No redness or bruising.
It was painful to take a deep breath in but now that has subsided I just have a constant dull ache. Even when I’m resting the pain is there.
I’ve also noticed that between the middle of the right pec and top part of the pec it’s very flat. Like something is missing. It’s hard to get a photo but here is one maybe someone can shed some light on it.
I’ve been taking ibuprofen and using various muscle ointments. Eases the pain slightly but there is a constant dull ache.
It is slightly warmer to touch also which makes me think it’s like a strain rather than a tear.
GP has given me stronger anti inflammatories and has referred me for an x-ray to rule out lung damage and rib damage.
Hope someone can shed some light on this issue as I want to get back to working out asap. Already had 3 weeks out and feel like ive lost what ive gained.
Common sense would be to leave the effected area alone until you get a clean bill of health. Otherwise youll run the risk making the situation worse. Which obviously will sideline you more. Focus on things that you can work on independently.
Nice on mate.
Just hope it’s not a tear. So bloody uncomfortable. I’ve just been doing legs and keeping my cardio up. Scared I might injure it further doing upper body.
Probably will go private to get an mri done rather than wait for nhs approval.
I’ve seen two tears in person and many on the net. You would likely have major bruising in a pec tear from what I’ve seen. Def doesn’t appear that way.
If it hurts, don’t train it.
When it stops hurting, be gentle training it… low weight HIGH reps (like 50) and only exercises that don’t hurt.
Don’t use ice - it’ll reduce pain in the moment, but ultimately slow down the recovery process.
Keep training everything else that doesn’t hurt in the meantime. It’s one small muscle that’s not up to the task - you’ve got many more to keep working on.
