Possible for the Body to be in Constant Gluconeogenesis?

My question is even eating very low carb (less than 25g/day and only from peanutbutter or almondS) is it possible to stay out of ketosis and continue on Gluconeogenesis?

Reason I’m asking is I’ve been low carb for so long I don’t seem to get into Ketosis anymore. It’s real strange.

I’ve pretty much been eating high protein for the last 4 years and low carb for the last 18 months.

Thoughts anyone? anyone heard of this?

I’m sure Thibs will have some input. I think he said at one point, he too, followed a low carb plan for about that same length.

One way to check it you’re in ketosis or not is to use Ketostix…I’m pretty sure you can find them at most of the major drug stores (Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, etc.) I’m not sure how reliable they are or if they’re even worth the cost.

I may be wrong, but if you eat low carb, low fat and high protein, you may have difficulties to go into Ketosis because your body may break protein for energy instead of fat.

Very true.

I have been Training with Shelby Starnes so he was handling the diet. No Carb cycling and fat/pro around 50/50.

I used Ketostix, and even went for a blood panel (yearly thing I do) and there were no Ketones in the urine. I found that odd.

I remember reading something a while back saying that if you are truly in ketosis and your body is efficient at it then you will excrete very little, if any, ketone bodies in your urine because all of the ketones will be used for energy. There may be some truth to this. Atkins always said that if you excrete ketones your urine and even breath will take on a particular odor. When

I first tried a low carb diet many years back I noticed that my urine had a distinctive odor which I came to call “Atkins whiz.” Lately I no longer get Atkins whiz when going low carb. However, if I’ve been doing low carb and I eat some carbs, or if I’m following a more traditional diet and eating low calories without going low carb, that is when I notice Atkins whiz.

This makes sense. Since the body prefers carbs for fuel, once the carbs are used for fuel the ketone bodies are no longer needed and are excreted. I don’t know; perhaps my body is just strange.

Sorry if this is TMI.
