Is it me or are these guys doing a lot of training with weights that, for them, are pretty light. On one video a guy, who appears to be around 94kg (maybe kolecki) does several sets of rack jerks with 140kg and 150kg. Don’t get me wrong there are some 180kg+ C&J done and even a few heavy Snatches, but with the exception of pulls and squats I didn’t see as many heavy lifts as I would have anticipated. Thoughts anyone?

Why do think Kolecki’s jerk is so good? [/quote]
I don’t really understand what you’re asking. Or should I say, I don’t know why you’re asking. I don’t remember saying that Kolecki’s jerk is good (though it is). I was just amazed that by the fact that Kolecki, who, if I remember correctly, C&J’s 220kg or more, would spend that much time with 140 and 150.
I just now watched it. Very impressive. I guess the reason that I’m so amazed stems from when I first started lifting. One of the guys at our gym, a much older fellow, loved to study the training systems of the best. He had every training and competition video that existed. He was particularly fascinated with the Bulgarians and their system. He was a big source of information for me, and this information influenced how I thought about training and thus how I organized my programs. One of the few books that I’ve purchased, A Program of Multi-Year Training in Weightlifting, has most of the training has most of the training taking place at 80% or more for 2 reps or less.
How much of the training year do these lifters spend on these light weight, high rep (3 is high) sets? Do they spend large portions of their time training like this and just peak for a competition?

I thought that I had a fairly good understanding of the Soviet system, but if they spend much time training like this, then I was wrong. Would someone mind educating me?
Keep in mind you cannot put together a complete picture of their methodology with videos from two different training days. People see a video or picture of lifter X doing something in country Y and assumptions go wild of what their exact training methodology is.

If they did their real lifting, we’d all think it’s a camera trick.
