I didn’t know Mo hurt himself that way. someone had said in an earlier post that he might have hurt his hamstring from all the leg curls, maybe it isn’t true. Also I know that Edgar is a great hitter, it just seems he has had a few leg problems in the past that have hurt his ability to run or even play. However I guess if you are a professional baseball player and play that many games it might just happen. I can’t really say this is Poliquin’s fault because I couldn’t prove it.
Oh yeah, and just do a google search on David Boston, you will see he was charged w/ using Cocaine and pot, but i’m SURE he doesn’t take steroids. Righttttt, just recreational drugs, they’re fine. But NO performance enhancing drugs. SURE. Oh, and here’s another one, Poliquin’s response to Boston’s accusation of drug use. Yeah, he’s on drugs, it’s called food. And Poliquin went on saying somehting to the effect, Proper training will raise growth hormone 9x greater than what can be taken by injection. Sure, tell some of the IFBB pro’s that.
i think the consensus here for most is that the dude is a prick but has some good sound training advice. his diet advice leaves a little to be desired. i think most of us follow jb’s guidelines anyhow.
persoanlly i dont give a shit if hes a jerk, his personality has nothing to do with his programs. however i undertsand those that are upset with him for his poor treatment of them.
its kinda like a guy like Barry Bonds. hands down the best player of this generation and maybe the best ever, oh btw he has an attitude problem. personally i dont give a shit about his attitude all i care about is what he does between the lines.
Allow me to moderate this thread for a second if I may:
I’ve read all replies, and I must say, most make very good points, albeit with their own attitude.
Bloatis, you make a good point and I will trust you’re familiar with Poliquin’s prescriptions. Clearly some of his methods are not the most effective for everybody.
Also, Poliquin has gone commercial.
HOWEVER, on the other hand, Poliquin’s produced very efficient training philophies (*or REproduced them rather). Maximal Weights is highly effective. So is GVT - and Bloatis, you’ll have to agree that some will benefit from it, some wont. You didnt, many others did, so stop generalizing your individual experience.
Likewise, and Bloatis pay very close attention, research has shown TEMPO has a specific effect on Weight training. Slow Tempo will produce results differently than a Fast Tempo - specifically the type of muscle fiber preferentially recruited will differ according to TEMPO. Additionally slow eccentrics will overload the fibers recruited to a higher degree than fast eccentrics, which leads to greater gains.
Again, Bloatis, you can assume the intuitive position and say “to hell with scientific research, to hell with training logs, to hell with data, facts, to hell with with it all - to get big you just lift big , you dont have to over think it.”
That’s fine. Again, rsults generally speak for themselves, and I can assure you an individual who knows how to use tempo for his advantage will experience greater gains than someone who says 'to hell with it". More specifically, try telling a Footbal Player that TEMPO doesnt matter, and that he’ll get the same results wether he lifts slow or explosively and fast. Watch how he laughs in your face. Watch closely, because you might learn something.
Fast forward some time, and walk up to a bodybuilder. Tell him how tempo doesnt matter, and how he will get the same results wether he lifts explosively like a football player, or wetgher he lowers the weight nice and slow to overload the muscle fibers in the eccentric portion. Again, watch how what resembles a smile starts forming in his face and how the music becomes suddenly deafened by his laugh. You might learn something.
That said, there are those who were blessed with such genetics they can do everything wrong, discard all guidelines, and still make amazing progress. If you are one of these individuals, it’s easy to be misled into thinking everyone will make substantial gains in body composition and strength by eating what you eat and by working out the way you work out. But trust me, they won’t.
If you were blessed with naturally…
Great T Levels
Great Insulin Sensitivity
Immense proportions of Fast Twitch Fibers
Very Low insertion points in your limbs
very large muscle bellies (meaning more muscle fibers)
better production of IGFs and HGH
more effective CNS (thus better muscle fiber recruitment)
better bone structure and density
stronger tendonds and ligaments
shorter limbs
better body structure, i.e. naturally wide shoulders, big chest, and so forth
Then you’re way ahead of the other 99% of the population who is a mere average at most of these factors.
I know I am.
In summary, Poliquin = tool.
Well, maybe not entirely, but he’s close.
Anyhow, in conclusion:
Charles Poliquin is a Jackass with severe attitude problems who has some great info and some terribly bad info.
Just read his good stuff, discard his bad stuff, and never EVER be within 200 feet of the guy. He’ll run off on you on how he’s taking his break now, cant you see?
I do wonder however, if he ever charges the cashier girl a fee for talking to him when he’s out grocery shopping.
“That’ll be 34.95 Sir”
“Can’t you see Im on my break now? That’ll be 449.95 for our 5 minute consultation, excluding Air Transportation and Hotel fees, as well as the extra trouble for meeting you at your convenience. It’ll come to a total of $3500 Miss. Let us not forget the extra 4 minutes I’ve stayed over, which will bring the total up to 3700. Make that 3800 for the extra minute.”
Or the poor man begging for money:
“Sir, do you have a dollar to spare”
“Can’t you see Im on my break now? That’ll be $5000 for a personal consultation with me without prior appointment. We take checks and Money Orders. Than you for shopping with Poliquin and Associates”.
Maybe even one of his extreme seminars:
"Poliquin enters room at beginning of seminar Thank you very much for coming and good night. Please exit quickly to avoid an extra charge of $699 per minute. Thank you very much for coming
I used to watch Mo Vaughn (sp) when he played with the Pawsox before making it to the pros. Boy, those were the days.
I have purchased many of CP’s books and products and even have had a question answered on his web site. Like I said before, I had some positive results with his recommendations, but I’ve found Renegade Training to be the best fit for me.
Diesel, I know you are exaggerating but is Poliquin really like that? Does he literally try to bleed you for all you’ve got? If he is, then he’s worse than people giving bad workout advice.
