I wouldn’t mean to be condescending. I just couldn’t understand why a muscle wouldn’t grow if you trained it constantly. I don’t really understand fiber dominance, never heard of it. My intention is to discuss with people that have more knowledge than I do. So thank you for your posts!
There’s a small group of regular posters that don’t really have anything else to do with their time but hang out here and incite arguments. It’s really sad to see that kind of behaviour in adults. My advice is to ignore people like Csulli and Twpunisher who try to take things off-topic and personal. There are plenty of other people here who have useful things to say, as you can see in this thread alone.
I too am a fan of irony.

Caltene is accusing people of “nothing better to do than start arguments”?
SERIOUSLY?
I have never seen you (maybe you have, but I haven’t seen it) contribute ANYTHING to this website. You are a grammar Nazi and a condescending douche, from what I have seen.

Your grammar is impeccable, I must say! Much better than the usual internet standard!

Hahaha! Says Caltene the infamous troll.

Same lol. Especially at this:

The only confusion was as to whether you had actually convinced yourself that your mediocre muscle size is not your fault or if you just felt like spouting random garbage on the internet.

Never heard someone the size of STB described as having “mediocre muscle size” lol.
I have no idea who STB is in real life. What he said was ridiculous and false. Muscle size is not predetermined by genetics. It may be that STB is not weak, but saying that the size of your arms is predetermined and there is nothing you can do about it sounds like an excuse to me.
There is plenty that you CAN do about. But, there are plenty moral and legal issues around that. And I didn’t say that muscle size is 100% predetermined. The mechanisms for hypertrophy just take a shit load more volume/longer period of time than others.
It has taken me 14 years to go from 160 to 280+. I know guys whose arms seem to get bigger after they squat heavy a couple times. This is not scientific by any means but I find it very hard to believe that everyone is born with the same efficiency in cellular growth, transcription/translation, insulin resistance, etc. There are a million factors that go into size. Yes, training, consistancy and time can help but for a lot of lifters, it is a small step above futile.
I watched the video of you pulling over 800 on your hub. That’s some impressive stuff. I think I took some of the stuff you said out of context.
Anaerobic muscle performance is actually rather heavily genetically dominated. Aerobic performance, on the other end, is much more influenced by environmental factors and training. This really has to do with the massive amount of enzymal reactions that go on during aerobic respiration, as compared to anaerobic. What’s more interesting is the difference between the genetic-environmental factor dynamic of untrained performance and response to training for aerobic and anaerobic performance. Essentially, aerobic performance (in general, and specifically pertaining to untrained individuals) and aerobic response to training are both heavily genetically influenced, while anaerobic performance is more environmentally controlled, yet anaerobic response to training is more genetically controlled.
Either that, or I completely forgot what my Human Growth and Motor Development professor said and I’m trying to remember. I did like that class, though.

Is it true that you can take a rep max, then calculate a max out of that and then compare it to a true max to figure out if you’re slow or fast twitch dominant?
I know with deadlifting my rep maxes predict a number lower than my true max. The opposite is true for squats. It’s almost always right with any grip width bench.
I’m wondering if this means my p-chain is a bit more fast-twitch dominant, my legs are more slow twitch, and my pressing muscles are in the middle? Or if I’m stretching way too far and this doesn’t indicate anything?
That’s just like me! The estimations from the method I think Jim Wendler recommends is very accurate for the bench for me, incredibly high for the squat, and bit low for the deadlift.
