Cheers bud, when I confirm when Im coming back I ll let you know.
Videos are looking a lot better! Hips are rising a bit fast and you still aren’t fully extending but it’s definitely an improvement! The bar is a lot closer to you as well.
As has been repeated now a few times don’t bother with the power versions. It may help you lift a bit more weight right now but it’s not going to do you any favours down the line. Just keep doing the bar work and you will get faster and catch lower in time!
Get down to the club and I’m sure you will see a massive improvement very quickly on your lifts! I got a 7kg snatch pb on my first day!
Trying to avoid the power versions mate but if I pull as hard as I can I will always catch weights this light without needing to dip at all…I figured I should practice pulling hard on all reps, is this not the case? Would it be better to put say 65% into something so I have to get under it?

I don’t know the best way for sure but as someone has previously said, ride every attempt down, regardless of how high it was caught. And during the bar work especially really focus on pulling yourself under and catching low. I think with time you will be able to more comfortably catch lower.
Also do lots of shoulder mobility work as it looks like it’s a slight issue for you.
I have no experience of coaching and I’m a beginner myself so wait until someone else puts in there point of view before taking my word ![]()
Post a video of you pulling yourself under the bar in a Snatch and Clean from the hang.
Your not pulling yourself under the bar. Your going up pretty well but your not comitting to pulling yourself under it.
Get a video of you doing it with a bar and then add 5kg on each side until you can’t go any further. Do at least 20 odd reps with the bar first to get some practice.
Yes pull hard on all reps but you MUST PULL HARD UNDER THE BAR - this is the single biggest difference between a beginner and a good lifter.
If your not fast under 40kg, you wont’ be any faster with 50-100kg mate. You need to break your motor patterns that are STOPPING YOU FROM GOING DOWN FAST UNDER THE SNATCH/ CLEAN.
It’ll take a fair few hundred reps before you go down fast:
Hang Snatchs - YouTube : 2yrs ago!
Try Snatch balances also.

Will get vids of both today and post them. Cheers mate.
Looking a lot better! Keep at it! They are obviously complex movements so you can’t expect to learn them over night! The very last 30kg snatch looked very good, the bar travelled forwards a bit too much after you made hip contact but it was definitely a massive improvement! Cleans look pretty solid too
You are obviously improving pretty quickly so I’m sure when you get down the club to see Brian and/or Koing you will see a very quick improvement!
You could do with a bit more focus on mobility but your friend paul really needs to work on his! ![]()
Hopefully mate. Like I say its kind of up in the air when I ll be able to get back though. Im busy all this week and next week so it will most likely be in a few weeks time. A week sunday we are going to empire in Bristol for some coaching in the meantime. Until then Im just going to keep doing the bar/30/40/50kg stuff.
Looks a lot better.
Be much more aggressive and fast with the bar. Remember this is an explosive and aggressive sport.
You should be BLAZINGLY FAST WITH AN EMPTY BAR. Focus on this. Then carry this with the 30kg from the hang etc.
Some of them looked a bit lazy/ slow but some looked a lot better. Again it takes 100’s of reps but your on your way mate. Things are looking a lot better.
Your finishing well, but your speed pulling under isn’t bad, but it needs work. I bang on about it but I gurantee f0cking tee NONE OF YOU WILL SNATCH 100KG without someone b!tching at you about this! But you will if you focus on a massive 2nd pull and attacking the bar.
Lock out your hands hard over head. PUNCH THE F0CKING BAR. You were a bit soft. Okay at these weights but when you load the bar up it’ll be heavy and it’ll crush. Focus on this.
Your mate needs to do a lot of stretching.
Get him to do over head squats so he can do an OHS properly and thus Snatch.
Improving buddy.

Obviously I agree about the pulling under, just realize that it takes awhile to develop so don’t get pissed off. You are basically throwing a big question mark at your nervous system right now, let it do it’s thing.
No tripple extension, practice makes perfect…
Trying to speed up a bit, cheers again for all the help guys. Quick question - Im definitely not extending on the snatches, any idea how to improve this?
Also, this is what my week looks like at the moment…any thoughts?
M- off (BS)
T - BS, S, CJ
W-BS, Bench, Chins
T -S, CJ, FS
F - off (BS)
S - BS, DL, OHP
S - S, CJ, FS
All the S and CJ stuff is being done light from the hang at the moment in accordance with what Koing has told me to do. Im squatting everyday but controlling the % pretty closely, the off days are light stuff.
Still bopping along, havent gone over 40kg on anything in weeks now so played about with the snatch a little today. Wasn’t the best rep but felt easy. Hopefully film a few better ones tomorrow.
I read through your thread… very nice to see you improving and also good to see this forum providing you with sound advice.
Some unsolicited feedback…
-
Your 1st pull looks very good. As you move into the next phase of the pull, when the bar starts to acclerate above the knee, stay firmly planted back on your heels and be patient as you come up. Wait for the power position to develop with the bar in your lap before you explode through the finish.
-
It’s time to stop catching the weight in a power snatch (video at 0:15) and riding it to the bottom. You must start learning to DROP. Bring your hips through the bar and get under! Try and time your feet hitting the platform with the turn over of your hands. I would also suggest checking out the drills that Coach Pendlay runs through on the Olympic Weightlifting Technique section of the vidoes at California Strength… my suggestion would be to work those drill with an empty bar.
Good luck and keep up the good work!

Thanks for the reply Dave. I have been doing a lot of bar work focusing on speed under the bar. I have it pretty well with the bar and 40kg, just as the weight gets heavier (the most I’ve ever snatched/power snatched is 70kg) I tend to hesitate somewhat, so I ll keep hammering the light stuff.
What would you suggest as a good way to progress from the bar work? I’ve been using the bar for 8-10 sets until I feel fast, then moving up to either 30 or 40kg from the floor. Should I gradually increase this to 35-45 etc? Thanks again, the videos put up on the Cal Strength website are excellent.
If you are watching those videos and doing those drills, dont do more than 3-4 reps a set, and pay attention to the “final thoughts” video as far as how to progress. After watching your videos, I have to say that I am impressed… and I think that really focusing on the 1st step as outlined in my videos till you are catching the empty bar all the way in the bottom like my guys do will really help you.
