Here’s hoping that your doc is being professionally overcautious.
In my prayers tonight.
Good luck with the doctor-and here is someone else hoping your Dr. is being cautious.

As always, you’re in my prayers.
T H A N K S Everyone!!!
02/20/09 - Friday
Endoscopy - “unremarkable” except for reconfirmation of Barrett’s Esophagus…chest X-ray next week now to further pin down source of ‘cough’.
T H A N K S AGAIN for you prayers and well-wishes…feel like training and dats what I’m gonna do(my Bronx accent coming through!)
Now go put up a number or 2. Bless ya bro.
Out from under the yoke. Trainings a good sign. Really hope you get everything cleared up. Then it’s back to working out again. I dislike anything that makes me feel mortal!
Good luck wuth the X-rays.
One of the times it’s good to be unremarkable. Hope you don’t have to post on this thread again.
Thanks again everyone for your support…you guys have never waivered, never let me down; always seem to be there when i need you & I really do appreciate it.
See my post from 2/22/09 on HT’s thread for latest. Suggestions, comments, feelings one way or the other are welcomed/appreciated.
John Paul Jones said something like, “I have not yet begun to fight” when the commander of the Serapis asked him to strike his colors. Well, I 'm not ready to strike mine yet either! I’ll take a lesson from him; the results didn’t turn out too badly as I recall but history wasn’t/isn’t one of my strong points>
Hey Art! Like hel said unremarkable in this case is a good thing, great news!
I hate whining and whiners, but I’ve become one as evidenced on this thread of late. Funny, twist of fate, ironic??? Things have not been well with me physically…I have developed a pronounced limp and I’m “listing to starboard” while standing. Went to podiatrist on Friday to try and start to get a handle on limp…he says not my foot or leg, most probably my spine/pelvis…says go see a back specialist.
I’m afraid of going and I won’t go until after the contest…he or she will most probably say stop squatting and DLing. Needed and got a chest x-ray for a cough that won’t go away after 3 months. Gonna need another endoscopy as my throat is narrowing and I’m having a hard time eating & swallowing. I’m a wreck!!!After all of your input, I am slowly coming to the realization that this is most probably gonna be my last contest, if that’s the case. I started training in my teens; one of my first PL contests was at Rahway State Prison in NJ while James Scott was incarcerated there(he was a ranked boxer but could not fight outside of Rahway) so you can figure out about what year(s) that was. I did the Brooklyn Open & a contest up at the White Plains Y where Nick Cali trained.
I trained all over but am especially thankfull to Tom Cenelli @ the Yomkers Y & my training partners at that time…Jeff Copland, Steve Corso, Eric Weinstein, & Harry DeJesus. It was about then I came in contact indirectly with Dr. Ken Leistner & even though he did not personally train me, I used many of his training programs & ideas/philosophy he developed for my training partners. I personally met Larry Pacifico, Tony Carpino, Joe Spack, Joe Steinfeld, Larry Mintz, Gary Apprahamian, Joe Morelli, Pat Susco, Nat Servino, Karyn Marshall, John Gamble, Fred Hatfield, Bob Lech, John Bojazzi, Jumpin’ Jersey Joe Pyra, Dave Abramson & his son, Bob Wagner, Ray and James Benemerito, Bill Clayton, Jules Pellegrino, Brian Callahan, Randy Salerno, Fran Volpe, John Gallo, Paul Wrenn, Doyle Kenady, Dave Waddington, Bill Kazmaier, Vince Anello, Mike Bridges, Ed Coan, Rickey Dale Crain, Lee Haney, Jo White, Tommy Muscanisi, Beth Grater, Craig Safran, Bob Corbellini, Dave Ginenthal, Rich Peters, Ted Sobel, Larry Lincandro, Ron Falcone, Eliot Feldman, Al & Brenda Seigel, John Audia, Pete Gisondi, Tony Pallas, Mark Girton, Curtis Payne, Dave Pattaway, Janco Rosado, Jose Guillen, Dave Tate, Robert Keller, Walt Bird, Rick Butera, Dan Black, Steve Scialpi, Ed Riley, Charlie Schroeder & Marie, Rich Kruszely, Jason Louder, Bill Scully, Fred Glass, Jake/Keith Boyer, Captain Kirk, Victorien Rival, Jim Corsello, Mike Cuipinski, John Gamble, Mark Cohen-Liberty, Anthony Gerasia, Tommy Cairo, Berlin Brunson, Russ DelRusso, Crazy Brian, Tom Tartar, Paul Fiorisi, Chris Siappanides, Joe DeMatteo, Brian Washington, John Kuc, Bob & Geri Gaynor, Keoni May, Troy Ford, Dan LaBue, Ralph Riaola, Emil Press, Morris Weissbrot, Rudy Sablo, Tony Kamand, Jose Perez, Anthony Clark, Felicia Manganiello, Frank Caramico, Tony Bongo, Wilton Mason, Barbara Miller, Gil Scarazini, Pete LaChance, Tyler Malejko, Tony & Gil Medina, Pete Russo, Marc Nathanson, Tony Atlas, Special Delivery Jones, Ted Arcidi, Mike Hall, Bull Stewart, Laddie & Troy Gibson, Tommy & Gino Ricci, Keiran Kullen, Ritchie Martinez, Dan Thomas, Eric Wilhelm, DJ O’Hara, Rich Johnson, Troy Cales, Armando Gonzalez, Jeff Olender, Gabe Mancuso and so many more I can’t remember at this moment, lifters I competed against or with over the last 30+ years. New Internet friends I’ve made…HT, Barry, JimmyT, DaddieZombie, BigJames, hel, etc. Thanks for all the memories…they can never be erased, nor will they be! On to a new beginning!

I believe there are doctors that specialize in this stuff. Otherwise Pete Egoscue and his crew might be another solution: http://www.egoscue.com/ .
Wish you all the best!
A positive attitude is always most important at the time when it is the most difficult accomplish. I will keep a positive thought in my mind for you. Keep us posted.
Stay strong, my thoughts are with you!
New chapter, new challenges.
I doubt you’ve had many challenges you can’t and didn’t handle. Try reading some Dr. Wayne Dyer. As if you don’t know this but try and find Docs that know what aDL and squat are, who have trained for something other than bridge or cribbage tournament. I love it when my buddy who’s a doc tells me to do more cardio while swilling wine and complaining about the knee replacement that he didn’t rehab properly.
Grandpa( that’s You ART), there’s a lot of us folks behind you, praying for you and willing you to succeed. Go sit in that gym you cherish and realize all the fun you’ve had. The fat lady ain’t singing 'cause I won’t let the bitch in the building. A fantastic week to you.
Know you love powerlifting Art but there are other avenues to take. Looked through your pictures and you’ve got a good physique (don’t get no ideas). Might be time to concentrate on bodybuilding. Whatever you do will be pulling for you. And thanks for the who’s who of the lifting world. Brought back a lot of memories.
Just for you, hel…throwing/field/jumpers guys I’ve met while out West…
Matson, Fuerbach, Wilkins, Rogge, all the Crousers(Dean, Mitch, Brian), Petranoff, Oldfield, Barnes, McCardle, Flax, Landerholm, Hohn, Stewart(Scottish National Coach), Vince Goldsmith(Strongest Man Canadian FB), Carl Lewis, Alberto Salazar, Bill McChesney, Rudy Chapa, Shult, Pluncknet, to name a few…met many many more forgot names, sorry senior moment!
Ok, now I’m seriously jealous. The Matson, Fuerback, and Oldfield duels were the stuff I lived for in High School. Matson was so straight laced while Fuerbach and Wilkins were living up in the hills like two overgrown hippies. Then, of course there was Brian. Got screwed royally on the “Pro Track” thing. Almost makes me cry now. He’s in a wheelchair and broke but still has same attitude. You keep giving me great memories to look back on.
Thanks for all those great suggestions…I have some soul-searching to do, as well as some ‘homework’ looking up all the resources that were bought to my attention. Thanks again. Meet one week out…going to my openers this morning in the squat and BP…will keep you informed as the week progresses
Here’s one more resource for you QuarterTonner, Functional Movement Systems. You can check out Gray Cook’s book ‘Body in Balance’ or perhaps even better, see a specialist in the area: Functional Movement Systems. This could help improve the quality of life whether you want to remain in powerlifting or not.
Best of luck,
Matt
