PL Training for Master's Nats

08/28/08 - Had my follow-up endoscopy done yesterday(didn’t get around to posting it until today, Labor Day). Got good news and bad…good news is that all the old ulcerations had healed fully; bad news is that I got a few fresh ones so my GERD still isn’t quite under control. I only had 2 bouts at night over the last 8 weeks and wasn’t aware of any attacks during the day, but I guess stomach acid is still finding its way up my esophagus!

Doc thanks for the advice(even though the thanks is several months after your last post. My prescription plan won’t pay for the meds you recommended; so I’m “stuck” with Protonix twice a day now. Scheduled for another endoscopy before Thanksgiving, hopefully my last one for awhile.

Got some new “toys” - a set of weight releasers I won on E-Bay and a knock-off copy of those rotating push-up handles.

My best to the gang - will try to ctach up on everyone’s threads in the next week or two. Hope all is well…c ya soon![/quote]

That is good news, all in all.

Has the alkaline diet worked for you? That might well do more than the Protonix or anything else.

Wish you well.

I have not heard og the ‘alkaline diet’, so I Googled it. If I look at my present diet, I’d say at this point, 70-80% of my diet is already alkaline in nature. The 20% is acidic, and while I could make some changes, it would be taking away some of the foods I love, for example, eggs & chicken & comprise a huge portion of my present diet. What do you make of this? Should I try to limit them as well…they comprise a huge portion of my protein intake.

Protein is acidic. It’s not reasonable to cut it out, nor is it even desirable. Lots of good green veggies will balance it out.

Still hovering just above 200lbs BW…as the summer came to an end, so did my desire to lose weight. My workouts suffered throughout the summer, but of late seem to be getting back into the groove.

Another endoscopy coming soon(late Nov) & i hope the latest ulcerations have healed and no new ones formed. I seem to be OK with taking the Protonix 2x/day…I do not NOTICE any reflex during the day, nor have I awoken from sleep from a reflux episode in the last several months. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed.

I will post my workouts when worthwhile on HT’s what the hell am I doing thread, for anyone that’s interested. My best to all who visit, especially “the gang!”

Pleased to hear you’re feeling better QT. We miss your wisdom around here.

I have Thurs & Friday, 11/06 & 11/07 off from work, so I re-scheduled my endoscopy for Thurs. My fingers and toes are crossed that I finally have gotten my shit under better control. I have had no night bouts of GERD in over 2+ months & only one bout during the day this week when my wife thought our house had been robbed again for the 3rd time in 7 months and the rest of my guns were stolen.

Long story, but happy ending. The holidays are coming & I’m gonna have a hard time with weight management which i truly believe will aid my cause. If I could just slip under 200lbs w/o starving myself and eating the right stuff to stay healthy, I think the possibility of the GERD will diminish as the weight does.

My wife has been bugging me to get on with it, & I really do want to, BUT, I don’t want to starve myself, i want to be able to eat & lose weight!!!

Well let’s see. Cardio is always an option. Nothing neck breaking, just some energy burning.

Another way is to remove certain items from your diet. Cooking oils, mayo, butter those items of high Kcal count.

Little of both. The point being something must occur, energy in energy out. Best of luck QT.

Thanks for your input, stream!
Tomorrow am gonna have my hopefully last endoscopy done for awhile…if everything is ‘clean & green’ I should be good to go for some time. While I hate taking medicine, it seems to be working for the time being…I will try to research some alternative therapies that I might adapt and wean myself off the meds…we shall see/time will tell. Gonna take the day off from lifting & start again Fri/Sat

Great news.

Looks like you have a good balance. Hope the endo goes well and you are back to training the way you want to be.

Just got back from the follow-up with my Doc…things are looking OK in my esophagus…the older ulcers have healed for the most part & no new ones were visible. My esophagus is a mass of scar tissue at this point. To keep an eye on things I will need an annual endoscopy or sooner if other symptoms become apparent. I will continue to train on an empty or near-empty stomach and keep on with the meds until I can find suitable homeopathic/natural remedies.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all the gang!

Good news and same to you.

Very good news. I’m impressed with what you’ve done with yourself naturally. And glad you survived the doctor. I’m scheduled for a colonscopy this year. Dang, no one warned me about that part of growing old.

AWESOME my brother, the best to you and Betty and the girls and anyone you touch in your positive manner.

…Had a real bad GERD attack early this morning(12:40am). Been several months since last one. Maybe I was too over-confident or naive to think I had it licked! Still feeling the effects as I write this 10 hours later & calling out sick from work! I guess I’ll be seeing the Doc again soon!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all the GANG!!!

maybe we do need a little more “Peace on Earth & Goodwill to All!”

Still posting workouts on HT’s What the Hell Am I Doing thread…have some time off from both jobs and looking forward to spending quality with family and sneaking in a few good workouts as well!

Art, the best to you and the family. May you get what you deserve which is all the best. GOD BLESS.

You’re time off has been well deserved Art. All the best to you and your family as we head into the new year.

Good to see that you’re still jumping under the iron

Best wishes and Happy New Year!

You know it’s not a good sign when this thread finds it’s way back to page 1!!! I went to the doc the other day because I’ve had a “cough” for almost two months now since my last bad GERD attack. I may have aspirated some vomit/acid/godonlyknows. My family doc gave me the once over, asked me a few ?'s, did a little touchy/feely around my neck & IMMEDIATELY SUGGESTED I CALL MY GI DOC for an APPT. ASAP…looks like I may be having another endoscopy a little sooner than expected…appt on Fri.

Not that the endoscopy is a big deal anymore to me…it’s a day off from work when I’d rather be at the beach or sailing or lifting, or shooting, or fishing or riding etc. & it probably means a day off from lifting as I need a full 24hrs to get rid of the anaesthsia effects. I will have to make up for it by doubling up again on the weekend as I want to take my training a little more seriously for the NJ States. I’ve done that before so it’s probably no big deal…so why all this ranting and raving??? I’m a little nervous about what they’re gonna find this time, that’s why. To be continued…
