THANX GUYS for the wisdom & your experience!
At this point, I don’t think I’m gonna gain any appreciable strength bet. now & contest. Whatever is there now, will be fine-tuned over the next 2 weeks.
01/13/07 - Saturday
Bench Press - all reps touch & go
45x10x2; 135x8; 185x5
(100’s) - 245x3; 300x1;
Loose shirt - 325x2x2( ~4-5 mins rest bet sets)
350x0 - came off chest then stalled 3 inches above chest.
My ego got in the way with the last set; it was more like a walk-through rather than an actual complete rep.
01/14/07 - Sunday
Feeling under the weather; not enough to skip a workout, but enough to want to just do the barest minimum…so here goes…
Squat
45x8x2; 135x6; 225x4; 315x2(B); 405x1(B+Inzer Wraps); 425x1(B+W); 445x1(B+W)
Crunches with 25lb plate on chest
10 reps x 3 sets
3 mile walk with dogs

Big fight at school - lost my voice/sore throat so no training 'till weekend. May call out tomorrow and take my last heavy DL workout(still gives me 9 days rest for contest). On Sat/Sun will take last heavy Squat and BP workouts; then active rest 'till contest
As you know the brothers are with you. We wish we could be there. As I told Jimmy T, me being there is worth at least 40#s maybe more. You’ve done the prep stuff, now it’s the mind. May God bless and keep me/us informed. May God, the universe be with you. Be safe. I’ll be sending you some quotes this week. Thanks again for the thread.
Barry
Thanks all for your best wishes! Went Friday to MD to do a throat swab for Strep (-) in the office. have had spking fever over the last two days, but it seemed to break last night. I awoke in the middle of the night and my clothes were soaked in sweat.
Not going to be able to take the last workouts I had planned…will go light during the week in the Squat/BP maybe on Mon/Tues, do some upper back and tris on Wed and just the exercise I get at work teaching Phys Ed. Everyone says I should forget contest, but I think I will be fine to go next Sunday…
I need to go for a lot of different reasons…I’m sure you’ll understand what I mean. I am judging on Saturday for the Women & Mens’ 114-181 so I’ll be able to kinda take it easy, & then I will do my best on Sunday, whatever that turns out to be…no excuses, no alibis, no whining/crying, just the best i can do that day under those circumstances!
QT, I pray that your health gets better. Here’s a quote for your head:
“You have powers you never dreamed of. You can do things you never thought you could do. There are no limitations in what you can do except the limitations of your own mind.”
~ Darwin P. Kingsley
I’m in the ‘doghouse’…I wanted to try to get in a squat workout but my gf/wife was dead-set against it because I was still ill. Being stubborn, bull-headed, stupid, all traits I’ve been told I picked up from my dad’s side of the family, I attempted a ‘quickie’…
01/21/07 - Sunday
Squat with RDC Genesis Suit
Straps Down - 45x8; 135x6; 225x3; 315x1
Straps Up - 365x1(B+W); 415x1(B+W)
I kept the warm-ups to a minimum, even for me. Each rep was easier than I thought it would be…wondering “WHY?”
The suit is loose, but I was able to breathe and no headache from the internal pressure of suit, belt, wraps, bar/weight, etc.
While I truly believe it is no more supportive than a wrestling singlet, I will wear it in the contest nonetheless. I will be keeping my fingers and toes crossed that I will be over this viral bug soon and can enjoy the rest of the week and the contest this weekend. Thanks all!

QT, No I won’t go away. Quote for this weekend:
“The real contest is always between what you’ve done and what you’re capable of doing. You measure yourself against yourself and nobody else.” ~ Geoffrey Gaberino
No, I’m not done:
“Somehow I can’t believe that there are any heights that can’t be scaled by a man/woman who knows the secrets of making dreams come true. This special secret, it seems to me, can be summarized in four C s. They are curiosity, confidence, courage, and constancy, and the greatest of all is confidence. When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionable.” ~ Walt Disney
Yes, I’m a wacko. Jimmy T. HT, and I are behind you. I hope you’re feeling better. Rock this weekend.

I’m back…
QT, The squats felt easy because you are ready to compete! The training behind you and the meet in front of you.You are strong and ready.Focus, determination and the fire of desire to move big weight!
Pick your openers smart and go thru the meet like a heavy training session.Everything will fall in place for you.Picture it in your mind and blow those openers away!Set yourself up for the big lift. You are the man my brother in iron! Jimmy T
Jimmy T, Words of wisdom from the master. QT our friend knows what he speaks. You know we’re behind you and we know your family is behind you.
Another quote from Missouri:
“Somehow I can’t believe that there are any heights that can’t be scaled by a man/woman who knows the secrets of making dreams come true. This special secret, it seems to me, can be summarized in four C s. They are curiosity, confidence, courage, and constancy, and the greatest of all is confidence. When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionable.” ~ Walt Disney
God Bless

You guys are something else!!! I really do appreciate all the inspirational quotes! I’m still not feeling great…went back to the Metabolic Drive yesterday still coughing and hacking up some unusually-colored clams and I STILL HAVE A FEVER!!! Started me on antibiotics.
I told him I was going to compete on Sunday…he gave me ‘that look’ and said, “don’t expect to be in top form that day!” I hate to admit he might be right, so combined with Jimmy T’s advice, I will keep my openers super-light and take bigger jumps if I feel strong enough.
My weight is about 201-202 this morning w/o a dump. I’m still eating every 2-3 hours but may have to modify that if my weight isn’t down by Fri. Worst comes to worst, I will sweat the last pound or two off, even though I don’t prefer this method. I will keep you’ll abreast of everything.
When my gf is out some time today, I will sneak in a quick workout just to flush my muscles with blood and keep them used to handling weight. Probably just some CG triceps lockouts in rack, some chins and dips and finsih with some Abs work - less than 45 mins worth!
