PL Training for Master's Nats

Jimmy T, HT, QT and all the faithful. Jimmy T had one of your weeks. A bunch of miles, no training, beat. Hitting it all weekend, a tribute to QT. Art, remember when Jordan was sick and went off. EAT! A PMA(positive mental attitude) can carry you a long way. Yes another quote:
“Leaders aren’t born, they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. And that’s the price we’ll have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal.”
~ Vince Lombardi

Rock this weekend. I’ll be an animal this Fri, Sat, Sun. I wish I could be there. I’m shooting for a PR in the pullover. I know a stupid PR but I love the exercise. God Bless.

Another stupid Barry gym trick. Busted a blood vessle in my left hand doing rack DLs. Jimmy you’de love it, a special kind of purple. QT, give 'em HELL. Train, be safe.

Hey all!!! It’s friday evening, I think I’m feeling better(though you’d never know by this cough).

I am taking it easy tomorrow in the referees chair for the women’s & 114-181’s. If the meet runs long, I will opt for the early weigh-in and not have to travel back & forth twice. If it ends before 3, I will probably weigh-in Sun morning. Either way, I think I will be OK with my weight. I am re-thinking openers - going even lower & taking less warm-ups to try to conserve energy.

This is my thinking at this moment:
SQUAT
Warmups - 45x10; 45x8; 135x5; 225x2; 315x1 all with suit on straps down; T
Then take 365x1 straps up to make sure everything feels ‘right’.
Open with 400

BP
Warm-ups - 45x8; 45x6; 135x4; 185x2; 225x1 all raw
Add shirt and take 275x1
Open with 300

DL
Warm-ups - 135x5; 225x3; 315x1; 405x1; 455x1 all raw
Open with 500

I am blessed to have had the best Internet Peanut Gallery that ever existed!!!..

HT, JimmyT and Barry have all contributed to my success. No matter what I do or don’t do at the Meet, you guys have done a lot for me and I wanted to make sure I took the time to say “Thank You!” I’ll post the numbers ASAP after the meet!

QT,
Best of lifting to you!The openers all look good. Now just go out and have some fun moving some weight.I wish I could be there. Jimmy T

Art, the openers look well withen your limits, make them strong, and see how it feels, make sure you are in the meet, and then go from there. i will be thinking about you this weekend while at work, let us know what happened as soon as you can!

QT,my energy level is very high knowing you are competing this weekend. I wish we could be there and see the results. Try and get a good night sleep.Success is where preparation and opportunity meet.

Lifting for both flights ended at ~ 3:30PM. I had a lot of fun!!! I didn’t lift anywhere near my expectations of myself! I have no one to blame but myself for that. I made weight on Saturday by not eating all day. I fell asleep and slept like a baby for 3 hours then tossed and turned from being nervous about my strength & the contest in general. I can’t lift heavy on a full stomach, so I drink a little V8 juice and creatine this morning…drove to the meet held in an awesome facility run by Rob Wagner. There were 2 flights - “A” had the 220’s, 275’s and SH’s and “B” had 198’s & 242’s. As the “A” flight lifted I warmed up. All of my warm-ups felt fine except my last one with the straps up at 365. It nearly buried me…I still had time to lower my opener, so I did to 170 kilos(~375). My gf/wife Betty was announcing so I had no one to help me…I got on platform and smoked the opener! I went to 180 kilos(~396) and lifted it OK! Everyone said I was going too deep but the judging was very strict so i didn’t change my form. My 3rd attempt at 190 kilos(~418) I kinda ended up in ‘never neverland’ half way up and it looked like I might fall backwards and I asked the spotter to help me stay erect and alive. I opened with 135 kilos in the BP(~297) after wam-ups that felt OK all the way through.

I made my opener with a long pause and that was it!!! Two tries at 145 kilos(~319) were blasted off my chest like nothing only to stall and then stop several inches later. Not exactly what I hoped for! As I began to warm-up for the DL, I began to feel a ‘soreness’ in my lower back/left side. My warm-ups were OK all the way to 455. There was an accident on the platform during the last attempt of Flight “A” so it took about 15 minutes before my first attempt at 227.5 kilos(~501). I was ‘cold’ by then and struggled with the weight. My back was even more noticeable after that. I jumped to 235 kilos(~518). I made that much easier than the opener but now my back was really talking to me. I took my last DL attempt at 237.5(~523) and it came off the floor maybe 3 inches before my back said “NO MORE!”

By formula in the Master’s, I took 4th place. I enjoyed the Meet greatly but felt slightly disappointed about the way I lifted and my strength, OR MORE LIKELY, my lack of it! Videos to follow! Thank you all for your kind wishes and support! I hope I can reciprocate some time!

QT,
Good job!You put it to the test on the plateform. My hats off to you.Jimmy T

QT, I didn’t get the videos but here’s my 2 cents. Way back in the day when I used to pitch on ocasion I would get shelled. The only time my senior year in college I got shelled was the only time my parents saw me play. Later that year I threw 3 shutouts in a row. You will learn from this and compete again. TRAIN hard and be safe.
