Barry - glad you saw the humor in my post on HT’s thread - for me being wedged in the can and thinking - “help, I’ve fallen in & can’t get out!” I just wanted to make sure there was no puke all over my shorts!

CG Floor Press
45x8; 135x8; 185x4; 225x3; 275x1

Deadlift(~ 3 mins rest bet sets)
135x8; 225x5
(100’s) - 335x2; 425x1; 475x3x4
Was supposed to try 475x3x5 but my form started to go south on the 4th set so I did not dare try a 5th.
Training in Lubbock,Texas today. Happy New Year to the crew. Pressing today, how I loathe it. I always love a first time workout at a new gym. The children don’t know what to think. Art, I am needing some dental work so I send my prayers. Thanks to all for your support. Tuesday, I’m supposed to hook up with Jimmy T in Amarillo. Can’t wait. Train hard and be safe.
Barry/Jimmy - hope you two hooked up and had a kick-ass workout together in TX!!!
Me…I had one of the most shitty/frustrating workout in a long time today!!!
01/02/07 - Tuesday
Bench Press
45x10x2; 135x8; 185x5; 225x3; 275x1; 300x1
Loose shirt - 320x1x2; 320x0
Was hoping for 3-4 sets of easy doubles here! Boy, was I ever mistaken! The bar blasted off my chest each rep, and then, stalled 3" or so from lockout. My triceps just weren’t here today - they must have taken a walk in the woods while my pecs and I were BP’ing! Just to see if it was me or not, I did some Dips, my favorite assistance exercise.
Dips
BWx10; BW+55x3; BW+100x2 & I struggled!
I am so darn angry at myself. After having my tooth pulled on Friday, resting all weekend and anxious to lift today…this is what I get??? I know I’m better than this, but am not sure why it happened??? I need to know, so maybe I can figure out something to do about between now and the contest. I really expected to blast the Bench today and all I did was sputter…I shot my load on the last warm-up. Any thgought/ideas???
Thanks to your thread and the internet yes Jimmy and me hit it for about 2 hours. He’s as strong as he is a real great guy. We had a blast. My form still sucks but who cares. For a guy from Missouri to lift with a guy from Texas just due to this is f…ing awesome. All the while talking to a guy from Jersey. Today was a blessing and you started this whole deal. We met at a new Gold’s in Amarillo, a little artsy fartsy for us. The children stayed out of our way. No PRs just 2 hours of fun. We talked of you often. It kind of went like this, “Art wouldn’t like that so we’ll put more weight on.” FUN!!! Thanks
Barry
QT,
As Barry said it was awesome to meet and train with a fellow powerlifter due to this thread!Barry is a mountain of a man.We will do it again I’m sure.
Do not let that training session discourage you QT.A set back is a set up for a come back!
I think you should use your competition shirt to do your doubles. We will always miss a lift, but regrouping and performing again is the key.You need to set up and feel the groove of the tight shirt.
Execute the lift and use the shirt, feeling for the point where you slow down and train thru it.The biggest problem we face in the shirted bench is letting our triceps catch up with the bottom portion of the lift.I have to train in my shirt to feel for that.
It is all about your speed of execution and technique.I’m from the school of thought that you must train in your tight shirt to master it!That is the one you will use on meet day.I know it will work out fine brother.
I’m off to Baton Rouge,LA.to finish up a McDonalds.I will be back home over the weekend to train.
Barry, our training together was a highlight in my powerlifting career.
TRAIN HARD!Jimmy T
Jimmy,
Great suggestions!!! The pep talk was much appreciated, as well! Am so glad things worked out for you & Barry; glad I was able to help w/o knowing with this thread. The happiest, healthiest, NEW YEAR to you & yours.

Not sure which sets are seen in videos to follow, but it will give you an idea about form and strength. The lifts were OK as far as strength goes; I had a little body shaking around knee level which stopped as soon as bar hit thighs/lockout. If I were to take just a single today, I think I may be good for 20-25 lbs more, maybe! For my last two DL workouts, I plan on dropping weight to 500x3 and then the following week, 515x3 and call it quits until the contest
I was going over some things and I ran across this quote. Art, I know it’s a little late but the next time you have a bad workout remember this:
“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Your friend,
Barry
Barry,
THAT WAS AN AWESOME QUOTE!!! You did me an incredible favor by sharing it with me…maybe I can incorporate its’ meaning into my entire life. It even kinda gave me goosebumps…and it meant a lot to me that YOU shared it with me - THANKS!
QT,
Your deadlifts look stronger as you trained.I trained with a guy in the 90’s that had a kick ass conventional deadlift like yours. When Barry and I trained he pulled stronger as he went too!Stay with it brother you will break the 600 mark!
I’m going to train with Mikey my 13year old son today.I have been looking forward to it.I’m blessed.
A safe and happy weekend to all.TRAIN HARD! Jimmy T

Glad you got a day off. Train hard and travel safe. I’m heading to the gym today too. Thanks again for the other day, I’ve been talking about it all week.
You two guys are INSPIRATIONAL to me. I feel I’ve known you for years even though we’ve never met face-to-face! The Internet is a blessing for things like that…I really look forward to hearing your candid comments, etc. I don’t have a training partner, so in a sense, I rely on the regular readers of this thread for help and such.

Barry,
Jimmy said your DL’s were looking strong. You must have done a great job working on your weaknesses over the last month…in time maybe the DL will become one of your favorites…nice to see you were successful. It must have been KooL to meet Jimmy and train together! Best to ya!
