PL Training for Master's Nats

QT, once again you are my hero. I can add 70 to svelt fatass 275 to my dip. Like Rodney Dangerfield said I may not be who you want but I’m all you want. HA
DL #2 at week at35lb height. Both weeks 435X3 was heavy. Going to 455 next week. Rack pull felt great 515X1,565,615,665. Back was trashed. I love doing pullovers with the EZ curl bar lying on my back on a bench with foot pads. After 75 each side I have someone hand it to me. Went up to 110 each side. Don’t want to blow a shoulder on a stupid lift I just love them. Then did split squats. No dancing tonight. Train hard. Jimmy T next month Texas. HOORAH

Remember - P A T I E N C E !!! I know you have the strength…combine that with better form and the sky’s the limit! Another thing I wanted to bring to your attention, is that it takes 1000’s of reps with the new form before it becomes your preferred motor pattern for DLing. The pattern you presently use is still there…when things get tough, your body will try to revert back to the old form…fight the temptation!
Lots of Luck!!!

Thanks

Have you guys seen Bolton’s 1003 DL?

11/12/06 - Sunday

Squat
Suit Straps Down - 45x8x2; 135x5; 225x3; 315x1(Belt)
Suit Straps Up - 385x1(B+W); 425x1(B+W)

425 was supposed to be for ‘reps’. My head was going to explode during the 1st rep so I quit. I can’t seem to handle to increased pressure of suit with straps up + belt + wraps + Bar on back!!! Happened just like unoffcial meet in garage. I am not going to use a suit anymore and just squat in a wrestling singlet. I can’t handle the pain, the fear of something rupturing in my head, and god knows what other weird thoughts of dying while squatting, etc.

My squat sucks anyway, so I will go back to squatting in shorts and tee shirt with no pressure and see where I can go with wraps + belt. I know what you guys are thinking…there is no yellow streak running along my spine… I just have 3 more kids to put through college, a mortgage, etc and I can’t afford something drastic health-wise to happen to me. In my mind, real or imagined, I think something is wrong with all that pressure so I’m not going to deal with it anymore.

I like to compete from time-to-time to test myself, but it looks like now I’m just gonna be a gym lifter for awhile. In my 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s, the suit was never a problem, now it is and mind you, it’s not even tight; just a bite to my legs and hips but loose everywhere else. I was even breathing OK - just too much darn pressure!
Waiting to hear your comments…

Hello to everyone! It has been a busy week and I’m a blessed man!A beautiful healthy family and a growing buisness.
HT,The triple at 455 was with a pair of loose briefs and a old Titan centurion that fits like a singlet, wraps and a belt.I have not trained in competition tight gear yet.Your training looks great too brother.I checked your pics in your profile and you are looking trim!Keep up the good work!

Barry,I might be in Amarillo in late december working on a McDonald’s project.I will keep you posted.Maybe we can train up there and have some dinner.

QT,Do not let the squat discourage you from competing at a future date. You will overcome the pressure as you research with different training methods. You are a great lifter and a true strength athlete.Being responsible to your family and lifting shows me you are a stand up guy!I have all the respect for you brother.I have some training suggestions for you. I’m getting ready to go to the gym.I’ll will post my training later on today.TRAIN HARD! Jimmy T

QT, I must agree with our buddy from Texas. Your priorities are where they should be. I have dreams of competing one day. I’m sure your physical stength bleeds through all facets of your life making them better. I’m sure the family benefits from Art being a rock. Train hard and have fun.

Sumo Style-Hamstring feels good and I could have pulled reps and more but we will start training sets of three next week.I like the squat and deadlift on the same day.The wide stance is fitting right in.
QT,I will talk with you tomorrow with some feed back.

Jimmy,
Darned, how I wish I had your squat!!! Nice workout! Glad you have been able to put together something that you like and giving you what you’re looking for in terms of weight/reps/sets, etc. I can’t wait to hear what you have to say about my predicament.

QT,
It has been a very busy week and I have to work straight through to Thanksgiving.Your squat looks like you lean forward from your pics in your profile.I would train pause squats from the bottom up to keep head over hips over heels.

Your strap concerns can be adjusted by getting a custom made suit with longer straps and your lats cut wider. If you ever video your squat training, post it and we can look at it better.I can’t train this week.I will train early on thanksgiving day.A good weekend to all and I will talk to you later.TRAIN HARD! Jimmy T

Thanks for your input, Jimmy. I wish a Happy & Healthy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

11/18/06 - Saturday

Bench Press - every rep paused
45x10x2; 135x8; 225x5
(100’s)-245x2; 280x1(Blue Shirt); 310x2x2(Blue Shirt); 335x1(Blue Shirt)
Different shirt from last week - fits tighter in arms but loose everywhere else. Reps were eall EASY!

11/19/06 - Sunday

Squats with 3 count pause on bottom
45x5x2; 135x5; 185x4; 225x3; 275x2(Belt); 315x1x2(B)
Regular Squat
405x1(B+W)
Keiser Leg Press
Worked up to a near-failure single

Decided to take Jimmy’s advice and try some pause squats. I thought I would cheat too much on a 1 count pause & decided maybe taking the stretch reflex out of the equation with a 3 count pause might help me out. The 3 count pauses were much harder than I expected. I seemed to be ‘grinding’ out of the hole instead of exploding. It was a humbling experience - just out of curiousity I tried 405 for a single to feel how it felt. My body was really fatigued as 405 was nearly a miss!

I think Jimmy has me on the right track with the pauses…as for the suit, it’s Holiday time and finances are tight so I gonna either stick with a wrestling singlet, or, my one of my suits that is loose. My BW is 204 today; I intend to bring it down to under 198 before next weekend(even after Turkey and leftovers) so that when I do all my workouts, they will be done at the BW I will weigh-in at.

Another thing came up - I am not going to the contest on DEC 9/10 because the NJ States are going to be held 15 minutes from where I live on JAN 27/28. This will give me extra time to get my squat up, if it goes, and allow me to compete without spending too much time and $$$. My wife said one or the other, can’t afford both! She wears the pants, so that’s that!!!

Again, everyone have a great Holiday. Jimmy, I hope you can juggle everything and still be happy!

QuarterTonner,
Yes, I am happy with my buisness going strong.I have to find the balance that we all look for in our lives. It will work out and I am ready to stay the course.

Your squat training looks awesome. That is a strong triple.Your bench and deadlift are strong as usual.Nice to see you share some time with your son in the gym.It is a high point in my training when I can share that with my son.
I read your post on HT’s thread and BiggJames is a different kind of beast.

I always enjoy making the rounds and checking everyones training.

My training partner and I are going to train in my gym today. He is in the oil buisness and he has been working long hours as well.We both have today off and we think alike. It is time to train!

Barry,I will be in Amarillo next week to start that job.I will keep you posted on my schedule.
Happy Thanksgiving to all you guys and your families.QT,it is always a pleasure to talk with you.
TRAIN HARD!
