Tatooine in IMAX.

Stormtroopers also confirmed back for Ep 7.

Stormtrooper you say?
Inb4 Thrawn

Word is they’re just ignoring all of the Zahn stories. Real bummer, I loved those.

It’s for the best tbh.

One shudders at the thought of it being a Dark Empire adaption

I shudder at the idea of Benedict Cumberbatch being the number one fan choice for every bad guy in all future genre films.

It was confirmed that the entire series outside of the six movies has now been retired and this will be a reboot of sorts, with an all new line of books and comics and TV shows set outside of that universe, and that Thrawn will not be appearing in the new movies at all. I am personally hoping they have some form of Pellaeon in the new series, he was my favorite Star Wars character from the old continuity and his death in the old continuity was really horribly done so this is a chance to do it right.

I am sure they will keep it similar, though. The whole three young leads thing screamed Jaina, Jacen, and Anakin Solo to me at first, but of the cast members they have announced only three are young enough to be the Solo kids but one is black so he is not one (probably Lando Jr) but Daisy Ridley is a dead ringer for Jaina.

Touché.
At least in my fictional version, Cumber-Thrawn would’ve been murdered by Jacen at the end of VII.
Damn right I just combined Thrawn Trilogy with Legacy of the Force

I picked up a few Star Wars books, and they sucked. Any suggestions on good reads, authors?

Some of the last few posters are really into Star Wars…

I only really liked Shadows of the Empire cause, since it was an interquel, it didn’t ruin any mythos or add too many stupid characters.

The best ones are the X-wing series, the Thrawn trilogy, the Black Fleet crisis, the Hand of Thrawn duology, and the New Jedi Order series. The books that came after the NJO just become increasingly ridiculous. They go in between having story lines involving ridiculously (and increasingly so at that) powerful singular enemies culminating in Abeloth, basically a chaos deity whose conflicts are resolved by just magically creating new powers for Luke Skywalker, to the point where he can single handedly defeat deities (except for some reason his final battle with her where he needed a Sith which was never sufficiently explained), and ridiculously complex galactic crises that was always resolved by the same characters over and over again. If you manage to read through the Swarm War and Legacy of the Force series you will be ready for a reboot of the series.

I actually liked many of the characters introduced, and expanded upon, in the books, especially Corran Horn, Wedge Antilles, Jaina Solo, Gavin Darklighter, and Pellaeon. The problem with the books was instead of continuing to actually expand the universe and really develop characters in it. They just kept making Luke Skywalker more and more powerful, and having Han, Leia and sometimes Lando solve everything.

I really liked the X-wing series because it did attempt to establish and grow more characters, and barely involved the main characters from the movies, but they just let them fade into the background and become secondary characters in the later books and went back to focusing on the characters from the movies.

Come on, do you really think that Abrams and Disney, if they ever did anything with a version of Thrawn, would disgrace him by allowing him to taken down by a whining brat like Jacen? No way. Jaina, yes. Luke, sure, but not Jacen.

Thank you Dr. Matt, I will give these a go.

Crimson Empire is great if you’re sick of Jedi and want what is basically 300 with Imperial Guards

Who was the guy that stole the suncrusher? Cause I actually had some interest in him.

The interquel thing for me just works better, in my mind I like to watch Return of the Jedi and know thats it done - the Empire is gone. However, with the books you have garbage like the emperors clone and Joras C’boath (sp?) which makes that satisfying ending of ROTJ kinda meh.

I did like Prime Vector (or whatever it was called) just cause the Yuzhuan Vong were kinda cool.
