After a 4-year break, I’m looking to get back into playing basketball. Not in a league or anything, just spending 1-2 days at a park and doing a lot of different shooting, dribbling and agility drills.
I need at least a few months of training before I get back into playing competitive games again.
As stated, I’ll mostly be playing outdoors, so was wondering what’s a good ball to buy? Should I buy an indoor/outdoor ball, just in case I do find somewhere to shoot around indoors?
I’m not looking to spend tons of money on a ball, but will pay a good price for a good, quality product.
I have a few, but the one I use the most is the Spalding TF-1000, I got mine on sale at some big sports outlet, so it was only $20 I think, otherwise it would have been more. Still though, I’ve had it for a while now and it still feels and reacts great.
I personally never liked Spaldings for outdoor play. They always ended tearing apart or getting real raggy looking. I usually go with the Wilson Jet, the one for about $40. I think its an indoor/outdoor ball. After a few days of wear and tear it breaks in nicely. 2 cents.
Dude I recommend buying one of the more expensive indoor/outdoor balls. A couple years ago I bought a cheap indoor/outdoor ball and have regretted it ever since. My cheap made in China ball loses pounds between every time I use it. Constantly needs to be pumped with more air. Spend a little extra and maybe you will not suffer the same problem.
I seem to recall having a Jet years ago and it was my a very good ball. Well, aside from the CITY ROCK ball that I got as a free gift from one of my b-ball camps (j/k).
I can’t wait till the weather warms up around here so I can get out and start working on my game. That slam dunk contest last night, plus the Warriors-Suns and Syracuse (my hometown)-Georgetown games from this week made me realize how much I still love basketball.
That’s the one crappy thing about my current gym…no basketball court. The gym I worked at in Tallahassee had a full-sized court with a total of 6 baskets. Used to play pickup games 3-4 times a week. Good times.
^ That was so cool, even if he didn’t truly “dunk” the ball (he more threw it in the cylinder) but still, the presentation and execution were outstanding.
I think the Wilson Jet is an indoor only ball. I think it is leather and will be destroyed by use on pavement. Not sure but You might want to check first. They do kick butt though.
I would easily recommend the cheapest ball you can find. Any outdoor court will quickly shred the grip off of any decent ball. Just keep it well-inflated and it should suit your goals just fine.
