Physique Clinic discussion for Barti

I think your PC has been, at least for me, the most educational in terms of carb manipulation and pre-race carb ups. Oddly enough, I stumbled on something similar - low carbs during training and then a major carb up (Good Times burger and fries) pre-race. Once I do this, I then don’t do carbs on race day UNLESS it’s a carb-protein drink like Accelerade. I bet Surge Workout Fuel will be absolute gold for during race nutrition. If I have just carbs, like Gatorade or one of those gels, my blood sugar crashes.

One more tip: On race morning, if you need to pee lots, that means you’re well-hydrated. The porto-johns are very popular on race morning. Some people even pee in their wetsuit right before they swim. I just can’t do that. Something to think about as you’re standing in the water surrounded by other triathletes waiting for that horn to go off.

Good luck.

Sincerely,

MikeTheGuyWhoDoesntPeeInHisWetsuit.
Hey Mike,

I’m glad that my program has helped with your knowledge of carbs and pre-race training and nutrition. I know, at least for me, it was a lot more detailed than I thought. Hopefully I was able to help a lot more people as well.

As for the wetsuit, it doesn’t surprise me that you can’t take a leak while wearing it. Some people find it hard. I other on the other could take a dump in mine if I had to. Once you put on your wetsuit and jump into the ocean when its under 50 degrees, you will find that peeing in your wetsuit not only becomes very easy, but very warming too.

Kick ass mike…

Here’s one other idea for you if you plan on pursuing fitness training as a career, and this will depend on whether you enjoy you triathlon and plan on continuing or saying to hell with endurance sports you just want to get hyooge. Consider getting certified as a triathlon coach and doing that on the side. A lot of tri coaches just work by Internet, much like the PCs. You won’t get a ton of clients, but the clients you get will generally be motivated.

For instance, on the tri forum where I’m one of the moderators, two examples of people who hired a coach are an OB/GYN doc and a lady who has 5 kids. Both of them are planning on doing an Iron distance this season. Both have done several tris on their own and hired a coach to get them to finish “the” distance. Like they say, they don’t have time to develop their own plans, they don’t have time to ask a bunch of questions about their training plans, and they don’t have time to whine that they can’t do the training. Their coaches tell them to do it, and they do it. Something to keep in the back of your head as you progress in your new career.
Woah…cool idea dude. I will have to ask Thibs who would be good to get certified through…

By all means ask around. I only know of the certification from USA Triathlon (USAT) but there may be others. A lot of tri coaches also get the certification from USA Cycling because cycling is such a huge part of tri training.

Right on. Thanks MikeTheNeverEndingResourceForTriathlonInformation!

I hope the triathlon goes really well for you. Your whole PC has been spectacular (and a great read) and i understand your desire to finish on a(nother?) high, just remember you are going to have to live with that knee for a long time after this has finished so take it easy if you need to.

Your whole personality has changed since the start of this (and now we know why) and i look forward to hearing the full details of everything you’ve gone through in the follow-up article.

Really it’s ‘CONGRATULATIONS’ already, Barti!

You know, people keep telling me on this site that my personality has changed, but my friends and my family say I’m the same just skinnier.

In my mind I have changed a little but its not my personality. I’m still the same 'ol smart ass I was in December but add a dash of confidence and it seems like I’m a cocky SOB now. Its hard for people to understand if you have never been fat, but the one thing I am noticing is people definitely treat you differently when you are fat. I think people are nice just to be nice and they aren’t truly genuine sometimes to fat people. Once your skinny, people just think your are a meathead.

So while I understand where you are coming from regarding that statement, I haven’t changed one bit. I’m just a lighter, skinnier version of me. Chris v. 3.0 as my friends now call me.

I am working hard on my article, so hopefully TC and Shugs like it and they will publish it. It would be a great honor to have an article that I wrote published, especially on this site.

Thanks for the wishes regarding my race, its going to be an amazing experience and the butterflies are already creeping in a little bit.

Hey, man, I just wanted to stop in and wish you the best of luck for your race! I’m sure you’re gonna kick ass! I’ll be looking forward to reading your after action report come Monday!

Rock on!!!

Good luck this weekend! Thanks for the good tips on the music to. I’m jamming to Bedouin Soundclash right now.

I’ve been following your thread since day one. You are truely an inspiration to many on here. Good luck this weekend, take no prisoners.

Bring it home cousin, you have already won.

I’ve been watching your Physique Clinic ever since it started and I have to say it’s pretty damn inspiring. It’s just amazing to see the difference in the pictures. You really do look like a different person. Good luck and I hope your knee holds up.

Just to say congrats with all the progress in the clinic, and all the best for the race.
Also just to say a big thanks for the way you have participated in the clinic with you’re posting of the program, feedback and the way you’ve felt about everything along the way. You’ve really succeeded in making the clinic informative and entertaining.
Looking forward to the article to follow.

Cheers mate!

Go for it Bartl!!! Weeeeeeeha

Oh hell, it’s almost race time! Best of luck to you. Be smart about the knee, kick some ass and have fun!!

I had to re-read the post where you mentioned Atmosphere to make sure my eyes weren’t decieving me! He’s by far the best rapper out there, even including other underground artists.

Anyway, good luck in the race man, I’m sure you’ll do great!

The suspense is driving me nuts. I’m two time zones ahead of you so that contributes.

edit oops, sorry on the repost. I am still learning how to navigate this whole posting thing. And since I’m here, why the heck is Bartl’s title on this thread, “Barti”? Isn’t there any way to fix this?
