Physique Clinic discussion for Barti

Hey man, why are you posting pics of some other guy on your log? This is supposed to be about your progress. This is my smart ass way of saying that you are not the same person who started this Physique Clinic. Amazing progress.

Now down to business. Before I became a less than mediocre triathlete, I was an even crappier Olympic lifter. Well, technically, I don’t deserve that title since I never competed. Let’s just say I messed around trying to teach myself the lifts.

What I’m seeing in you power clean video is you’re starting with your butt too high. This causes you to use too much back and you end up doing kind of a cheat reverse curl. A good way to fix this is to eliminate the problem altogether and start the lift from the hang. Best advice I read on doing a clean or snatch from the hang comes from the venerable Dan John: bring the bar down to a point on your thighs just above your knees, then jump. That is really the essence of a good pull. In fact, what I do as part of my warm up is I do some jumps in place. When I’m ready to lift, I do that same movement while holding the bar and I add a powerful shoulder shrug.

Here’s a really good article on the power snatch by some guy named Thibaudeau. I hear he’s pretty good at the Olympic lifts.

Damn, man. You are looking fantastic! I read all of the Physique Clinic threads (though I’m not so much for the commenting), and your changes are absolutely the most mind blowing. Incredible appearance difference from the “Random chick checking you out” point of view.

Thanks Mike. I also heard that by doing hang cleans forces you to drop quicker to get under the bar, which I also have a problem doing.

This week when I have cleans, I might just only do the hang version until I can get my form down.

With legs like those, you can check me out.

Just kidding, but not really.

Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it, especially from a woman’s point of view.

Insane progress. You are f*cking awesome.

Sweet, another French-Canadian on my thread!

How crazy is that. I used to be fat and went unnoticed, now I’ve lost a couple lb’s and people think I look like them (only not as good looking).

Well, I hope that you are right about the session, I am heading down to Globo Gym in about 30 minutes, so thanks for the heads up. I am gonna need to get up for this one.

Hopefully you have good results. Keep me in the loop on how things are going and thanks again for the compliment!

Was there a big adult league tournament in Montreal recently, withing the last 5-6 weeks? I thought I heard some guys I play with mention that they wanted to put a team together to go but couldn’t get all the guys.

I have great towel girl technique if you ever run a tri in San Diego!

Well honestly i dont know but what i can tell is there always tournament here in montreal, even in the summer…There was something really big in Quebec city a week ago, a tournament organized by budlight, they played outside(about 20 rink) 4 on 4 and no goalie, some local celibrity were playing, even a few ex-Nordiques…

And i hope you have a good workout!!This workout ithink is a blast!!!

I will look into it for sure. Any other “services” I should know about? Maybe post tri rub down?

Hey Bartl, just wanted to say nice progress again, your transformation is inspiring and extremely impressive! The new program CT designed for you looks challenging, but rewarding at the same time.

As for the power cleans, I think they look fine. You are getting the elbows up, which is good. My form is very similar to yours, so if you’re doing something wrong, I am too, and we can both correct it.

Nice shorts as well. I always wear bball shorts to the gym.

Another high five for the facial hair and double high five for your transformation.

Keep it up man!

Thank you tmoney.

Correction here though…I don’t wear bball shorts. I will never wear bball shorts. I actually prefer to train in sweats when I have to do legs because they don’t get caught on my knee’s like shorts do. I just find them to be more flexible.

Those are actually a pair of board shorts that I surf in when the water is warm enough to go without a wetsuit.

My clean form sucks man and definitely needs improving. Lets continue chatting and help each other out. We can either do it in this forum or over PM, don’t matter to me.

Here at Globo Gym, we’re better than you. And we know it! Hope they’re not making you wear purple and do the snake dance…

I think it was Gus who had a similar story of going to a party with some friends he hadn’t seen in years and they had no idea who he was! Crazy!

Thanks for taking the time to write a detailed and entertaining log, it’s a great read and we’re all happy to see you in such great shape!

Oh my bad man, they looked like bball shorts to me, my mistake.

tmoney = owned :frowning:

I actually started working out in sweats a couple of weeks and I like it. You’re right, they don’t get caught up on the knees and much more flexible.

Bartl = genius :slight_smile:

I’ll send you a PM on the cleans.

Bartl & Tmoney

A good place I’ve found for those lifts is crossfit.com…they have tutorial videos on all the Olympic lifts.

www.crossfit.com/cf-info/excercise.html

My form needs help too…it usually takes a couple sets before I become flexible enough to do them right. Give the site a shot.

Hey Qaash, thanks for the link, much appreciated. That’s probably better than watching Youtube clips of people with bad form haha.

Thanks again Qaash, and keep up the good work bro!

Yeah, you guys will be able to adjust really well, the coach in the Clips is a real stickler for the fundamentals and he has a warm-up routine that’s also helpful. I hope it helps you and Bartl.
