PGA Championship 2014

My experience: car got stuck in mud in the extra-costly, lot B across the street for Valhalla. Phil blew off the fans. Tiger said thank you to us after buddy complemented him on great drive on 14. He also posed for photos after leaving Valhalla at the Shell station down Taylorsville Road. John Daly looked like he wasn’t in athletic shape, but again, really good to fans. Also, hard to look good in fugly looking pants smoking Marbolos. His caddy was hot. Assume that it’s his girlfriend. Kenny Perry and Tom Watson are fan favorites for a reason. They’re great with fans. The young guns could learn something.

Opening up thread for anyone who wants to discuss the current state of golf and this year’s championship. My opinion, nobody is as fun to watch as Tiger.

Please discuss.

Tigers fall since being caught cheating- mere coincidence?

Tigers fall since dis associating self w. Doctor who performed his surgery, that was later linked to steroid distribution- mere coincidence?

You’re implying Tiger wouldn’t have access to steroids elsewhere?

I just got into golf last year but it seems to me, without a player that everyone feels is going to win every time they step on the course, it’s a less interesting game. I knew a lot about Tiger without even following golf because the general feeling was that we were all witnessing someone who would go down as the greatest ever. Without a player like that, golf ratings are tanking.

Side note - I tried to play at my local 9 hole course today and it took me 45 minutes to get through 2 holes so I left. Rate of play is a real problem.

No. Id say there are many options. Id better say that I meant once he was outed- he understood the connection and feared becoming associated w. Anything like that again. Knowing the media already made the connection.Whether using or not . …he shouldnt be any more . So- in theory if so - huge fall off. See #major league baseball. Yeah… would be epic blow to career.

45 minutes for 2 holes? Wow. Was the course municipal or privately owned public? Was someone hurt, or were they just too greedy? Smart for leaving. Slow play like that can kill your rhythm.

I heard that courses were going under because of lack of play. You experienced the opposite, so what gives?

Not sure if Tiger used steroids. Considering the mental and muscle memory factor, I’d be surprised, but who knows. Tiger’s long ball was legendary. Don’t think that the PGA drug tests, so it could’ve been a factor. Dustin Johnson did cocaine & weed for years before it took its toll. Even then, he bowed out instead of the PGA stepping in.

Things are getting very interesting, I would love to see Phil win.

If he loses, it won’t be for a lack of effort. He’s going for it. Should be fun to watch. The back 9 is easier.

The daylight at the finish wasn’t near as dark as the commentators were making it out to be. CBS was exaggerating. Guess that it made for better drama.

Is Rory the next Tiger?

Should Phil have had the right to hold Rory back and make him finish later? The refs overstepped their traditional roles. You could tell that Phil wasn’t happy being told what to do. It’s traditionally a player’s right to let people join in or play through. The refs took that away. Better television to let the lead players finish at the same time. Still, there’s a lot of money riding on a single putt.

Rory has a real good shot at being the best ever. Even at his best Tiger never drove the ball like Rory has been driving it for the last month.

That’s an issue everywhere that is trying to be improved upon. Let the course you played know, they will be interested in correcting the problem.

For what it’s worth we played 18 last week (walking) in around 4 hours 20 min.

I can see both sides, part of it was Phil being Phil. He was charging his way down there so fast trying to avoid having that happen. I also think he was hoping if they could get their 2nd shot off then the final group could tee off.

Not to mention isn’t the weather supposed to be crap there tomorrow also?

The next day’s weather could have been a factor. Still, all of the storms have been scattered. They would’ve had time today.

Phil and Rickie had a time advantage and they used it. They didn’t allow Rory to join their group. The PGA essentially cancelled their advantage.

Maybe it was the best decision for the game overall?

Having Phill or Fowler win is just as good for golf as it is having Rory going on this run. I think what’s important in a post-tiger era is that there are some consistent names at the top of the leader board on sunday. Overall great tournament

Privately owned public. The issue is it’s the only 9 hole course in the area, is well maintained and only costs $15 to walk. So for people, like me, who don’t feel like dropping $50+ and 4 and a half hours to play 18 holes go to this course. I just need to be more selective of when I go.

I can actually agree with that, to the extent that 3 or 4 guys can always be on top. It could generate some interesting rivalries which would be good for the game.
