I have friends who don’t like him. Personally, I love him. My feeling is that to be the best in the world at anything means you’re pretty damn special and I can’t get enough of the guy.
Of course he’s going to not play his best and lose at times, but that’s how he’s viewed in the game of golf which is incredible - someone who is expected to win.
So, I checked the results of this week’s Zurich Classic but that was it. Never even had an interest to watch golf without Tiger.
Now, the Europeans have some definite game, they prove it over and over, and they have a higher percentage of players that can actually play with Tiger, but it’s not enough to get me to watch European golf. He’s done a ton for the game of golf, but what happens when he’s not playing? It’s like watching the Nationwide Tour, or women’s basketball for that matter.
Anyone agree - disagree? Thoughts on the severity of his impact and how it really is effecting the game.

I think a lot of people would echo that sentiment, although I’m not really sure how subjective it is…I mean, how many strokes back does he have to be going into Sunday to be not playing for the win?
In my case, if Tiger’s in a tourney I typically make sure I see every bit of coverage, starting on Thursday. So consequently, if Woods isn’t playing for the win as you put it, I’m still dialed in to the tournament since I’ve watched it from the get go and must see the finish regardless at that point. Besides, if Tiger gets beat by one or 10 strokes at least I feel like I’m watching the best PGA golf possible.
His cum gargling posse of fanboys killed just about all the interest I had in watching him golf. When a bunch of fuckwads that probably don’t know the difference between a fade and a draw scream “GET INTHEHOLEAHHH!” when Tiger tee’s off on a 554 yard par 5, it kind of makes you want to look elsewhere.
Watching John Daly pass out while waiting to tee off after autographing some chicks ass is way more entertaining.
Exactly. We went through the same thing when Michael Jordan played. NBA viewership went through the roof during that 6 championship run because of all the casual viewers who just wanted to be a witness to greatness. Tiger has the same effect on golf ratings and he’s opened a lot of people to the sport. I never considered playing golf until after watching tiger win his first masters. a month later I went out and bought a set of clubs and have been an avid golfer ever since.
I watch when he’s not playing but I got to admit I make watching golf my priority when he’s playing. If Tiger isn’t playing I’ll switch back and forth between other things.
You just never know what kind of shit he’s going to pull out at any given time, he’s too much fun not to watch, that is if you like golf.

Golf fans watch golf no matter who is playing. Tiger fans watch golf when Tiger is playing.[/quote]
I disagree. I watched golf before Tiger all the time, it’s not that. It’s more like watching golf without Tiger is like watching the JV play. I’m not sure if you understand my point - It’s more along the lines of not watching the best possible golf that is out there…like watching a bunch of second stringers. A lot of times when Tiger isn’t playing neither is Lefty, Vijay, Furyk, the Euros or boys down under - that is not a hot ticket IMO.
For example, UFC 82 was here in my town but I couldn’t see forking over a couple hundred bucks to watch MMA with the fight ticket they brought. OTOH, I told the wife that I would have to pay it though if GSP was doing battle.
It’s just a different ball game when you’re watching the best.
Growing up in a golf house, I watch every tournament really. Tiger is obviously the most dominant player, but person-for-person the Europeans win everytime. See: Ryder Cup.
