235 kg
3 sets of 265 kg
2 keg clean and press
3 x 0 on clean
1 x 0 on press
1 x 1

1 x 2
3 car deadlift simulator
up to
1 @ 225 kg
1 @ 265 kg
1 @ 295 kg
1 @ 305 kg - PR
Notes:
the yoke: I will maybe try to find another venue for this next time. The driveway to our hose has lots of holes and bumps, which makes yoke challenging and more dangerous. Also I would like a longer course.
keg: got really angry after 3 failed cleans and watched some videos to help me figure out what I am doing wrong. In hindsight I am glad that I filmed all those videos of my attempts. I realized that I wasn’t throwing my elbow around at all. I was able to correct this and finally get a clean.
car deadlift: Corrected my foot position and stepped a little forward in comparison to last time.
@TX_iron: Watch out for my off season buddy! I am going to make a run on a big deadlift hopefully . But before my big mouth gets me in trouble: Where exactly is your deadlift at currently?
21.05.19
1 deadlift
2 @ 200 kg - ties PR. Lost the third at knee height
1 @ 200 kg - lost the second ca. 15 cm above the knee
2 banded deadlifts
3 @ 120 kg + band tension
3 @ 140 kg + band tension
3 @ 140 kg + band tension
3a chest supported incline db rows
3 x 10 @ 30 kg
3b seated leg curls
3 x 8 @ full stack
4 dead stop hip thrusts (barbell)
3 x 8 @ 160 kg
Notes:
tired and hip flexors were super tight today
even though I again missed a third rep, I feel a lot better about this session than the last! I didn’t make a stupid mistakes and my technique was by far better than last week. Given how much and how heavy I have trained, I think I can be pleased with the results of this deadlift cycle.
prep nearly done. I feel surprisingly good physically. But I absolutely do feel the need for a deload
Okay, I’ll type this down and then we all forget about it and let it go. Ok?
1 log lift
1 @ 96 kg
1 @ 101 kg - failed the initial clean, took a few breaths and got it
1 @ 101 kg - failed second clean
1 @ 101 kg - failed second clean
clean once: 2 @ 101 kg - failed the third press because it got too far behind me. Hyper extended way too much and lost control. Dropped it behind me. Felt that one in my back. Was a bit scary but I’ll be alright
Planned to do viper presses to work on speed. Also planned to do farmer’s walks but took a bath instead.
Notes:
I was very tired going in and had no desire to train at all. The bad weather made it extra miserable. I should have probably skipped this one or should have tried to get my head into the game beforehand.
I plan to have one more session on Friday and that will b it for this prep.
I am currently off work (holiday). Feels like a waste right now… I have no plans and am trying (ok, I have no choice) to spend little money. I could just go to work, what’s the difference. A few of my friends are coming to visit this weekend though. That should be a good time.
In the spirit of full disclosure, here still is the video:
@simo74 Yeah definitely. I have learned by know that you gain more from turning around and leaving it be instead of forcing your way through a bad training day.
In general news: I feel a cold coming on. I have felt it coming for over a week now but my body seems to be fighting tooth and nail to prevent it from breaking out. If I feel good, I will have one last Training day tomorrow before comp. If I don’t, I won’t train. I have one week anyway to be/ get fot. Seems doable. Comp is in anyway but with the second comp in mind, I’d prefer to not get really sick. Can’t do much about it anyway, so we’ll see
1 yoke walk (1 lane is about 17-18 m)
4 x 85 kg
2 x 125 kg
1 x 165 kg
1 x 205 kg
1 x 245 kg
2 x 285 kg - first run was shit, second solid
2 farmer’s walk (again same lanes)
1 x 65 kg
1 x 85 kg (beltless)
2 x fail @ 205 (grip was absolutely fried. Pick up and run was no problem but had no grip strength at all. I would interpret that as accumulated fatigue and I’m not going to break a sweat over it)
2 x 3 @ 85 kg - bit endurance and speed focus
3 keg clean and press
3 x 0
2 x 1
Notes:
I hate the keg. My belly is all blue from skin bites.
a weekend of heavy drinking and fun with friends is at full go
Competition time! This was my first German Cup experience, which is the second league. Weights were therefore a lot higher than what I am used to and also they increased the weight niveau for this league this year - fuck me, time to get way stronger then, haha.
The comp setup was pretty cool, even though the ground wasn’t level at all, which you will see in effect at the farmer’s walk video. It was embedded into a city festival (which is pretty common for comps around here) so there were quite a lot of spectators. Very well run show and great organizers.
It was a 3.5 h drive for me to get there, so I at least didn’t have to get a hotel.
Didn’t talk about it a lot but went into this comp feeling pretty sick the whole week. Not meant as an excuse though. It is what it is.
Event 1 : Keg clean and press @ 90 kg (ca. 200 lbs) for max reps in 60 seconds
I got 3 reps and a fourth clean but that last clean ate up too much energy and I had it on my chest too long, so there was no steam left for a press. PR for me and happy with the result.
Event 2 Car deadlift @ 300+ kg (660 lbs) for max reps in 60 seconds
Max effort isometric lift for me - didn’t budge. The pick was a little lower than what I would have expected and this was just too heavy for me.
Event 3 atlas stone over bar @ 130 kg (287 lbs) for max reps in 60 seconds
I would have expected that this would go the exact way the car deadlift has gone before. So I was very stoked when I got the thing up into my lap in a colossal fight. I wasn’t able to do an extension though. Sill very happy with my performance there as the last time I have done stones is about 1.5 years ago and I have never done more than 100 kg. Another zero on paper but a mental win for me
Event 4 carry medley consisting of 120 kg farmer’s into 90 kg keg loading into 110 sandbag loading - all for 20 meter
Now things got funny: This was meant as a final round that only the best 20 get to do. Knowing fairly well how I would stack up, I didn’t train for this. Hell, I didn’t even know what the medley would consist of - I didn’t look into it at all.
But since 10 registered guys didn’t show up and the contest went so smooth and quick, Heinz decided that everyone would get to do the event (which is great!). Because of my placing I was also the first so there was a bit of confusing and I had to rush to the start.
Completed the farmer’s even though I set it down once, completed the keg and died like 5 meters into the sandbag. That things was brutally big and heavy and my glutes and hams were shutting down harshly.
I am pretty ok with how I did here even though I was fairly slow.
Finished 37th of 39 competitors but that doesn’t concern me in the least.
It was a great first experience. Time to heal and do the next one in only two weeks time!
