Thanks a lot to all of you guys

@mattjp yeah the medley was brutal. A lot of guys were struggling and couldn’t finish the sandbag.

Nice bro! Proud of you for finally getting into the majors. That’s a pretty heavy show man. I always try to emphasize to folks I’m talking about competing to that the events don’t exist in a vacuum, and after trying to lift cars and carry safes running with a 250lb sandbag fucking SUCKS.

Honestly man I’ve got a few great friends whom have directed their negative energies into some very destructive directions; it’s warming to see you take that and propel it toward productivity and self-building.

Strongmen are the alpha dogs in the lifting communities. They are pure beast mode. Well done

Thank you @mortdk, @MarkKO, @losthog and @TX_iron (and a special thanks for the warm words buddy) !

Also on this:

A common comment I get when explaining the events of a comp to someone is “wait, just 4 exercises and that’s it”? Haha

The thing most sore/ painful are the lower of my biceps and forearms. Upper back is also still sore. So farmer’s we’re off the table and I soon learned that I lacked the stability to get in decent pressing.
It was very hot today and I was sweating like I am coming out of the shower. Luckily I found some floss tape to wrap around the log and the yoke cross bar. Shit was still very slippery.

1 Log viper press
3 @ 45 kg
3 @ 56 kg
3 @ 66 kg
3 @ 71 kg
3 @ 76 kg

2 Log lift
3 x 1 @ 91 kg
1 x 2 @ 96 kg (clean once)

3 Log clean EMOM
96 kg singles for 5 minutes - Solid cleans

4 yoke walk
3 x 20m @ 220 kg - in about 11/10/10 seconds

Notes:

  • yoke felt very speedy.
  • somehow my left shoulder feels funky a few hours after
  • I plan on doing a light deadlift session tuesday and then my last prep session with contest weights or close to on friday or saturday.

Did I miss something, so you have another comp?

Yes sir
15th of June, so only 2 weeks after the first one.

Events are:

  1. yoke walk - 20 m @ 300 kg
  2. Log lift - 60 seconds @ 100 kg
  3. farmer’s walk - 40 m @ 115 kg
  4. tire flips (May only be for finalists)

I am a little behind on logging

03.06.
Hurt my shoulder on the 02.06. - combination of different things I think, mainly fatigue and the bicep + lat situation. Nothing too serious, I just need to get it out by the weekend for my last heavy training and the comp obviously.

So I invested an hour into mobility and fascial release work. Helped because I am hella tight.

04.06.
Light maintenance training today

1 deadlift
5 x 2 @ 170 kg

2 highbar squats (No equipment, gripping the plates to not piss of the shoulder)
2 x 5 @ 100 kg

3a chest supported db row
3 x 10

3b seated leg curls
3 x 15

4 reverse flys
3 x 15

Notes:

  • Deadlifts moved well
  • good to get some kind of squatting in after a long break, killed my hamstrings for some reason
  • shoulder is improving

Last training session in preparation for my next comp. Trained at our club. So I’d have better equipment.
Shoulder is still giving me trouble. It isn’t terrible but isn’t going away either.

1 log lift (clean every rep)
2 @ 100 kg - PR
3 @ 100 kg - PR! (and comp weight)

lol talk about the difference a decent log makes for the clean! @strongmanvinny2. The clean wasn’t even an issue.

2 yoke walk
20 m @ 160 kg
20 m @ 200 kg
20 m @ 240 kg
20 m @ 280 kg
20 m @ 300 kg - PR and comp weight

3 farmer’s walk
complete fail. Could only get a few steps with 117,5 kg. The trend of my failing grip continues. Don’t know what is happening there. My baby hands never were much for grip strength but it didn’t use to be that bad. Hopefully a full week worth of rest will restore some of that and then I will make it a point to prioritize grip more in training

4 tire flips
7 (?) @ 300 kg

Notes:

  • and it is a wrap. The body is in over all decent shape but I have some aches and spots that don’t feel good. My shoulder is my main concern obviously. One week out, so let’s go!

As another fairly large dude with little girl hands, I thoroughly sympathise with the farmers situation. I simply use around six times more chalk than seems necessary.

Hopefully a pre-comp deload will take care of some lingering fatigue and you’ll get the event done and dusted.

Hah wow, that log came up so quick. You have peaked well for this show.

Also, the shittier I feel pre-deload leading up to a show, the better I do. If you feel “good” something isn’t right! Good job!
