Per aspera ad astra (strongman Koestrizer)

Great write up mate, I had been eagerly waiting for this and you did not disappoint. Sounds like a really fun day with some fun but challenging events. Couple of PRs in comp is bloody good going. Well well done sir. Salute and respect.

Read and watched, really happy to see you get that stone, so close on the second there as well. Awesome to see you getting after these comps and see the training paying off!

Thank you mate!
As I’m constantly wondering how much linger I have or want to spend in the sport, it was good to have another fun and motivating experience without much regret afterwards.

I’m actually potentially competing another 4 times this year! :o
Busy season.

Also I don’t want to kick anyone who is already on the ground and I feel bad for the guy but I observed the stupidest injury I have so far at that comp.
The fella got a bit carried away hyping up for the first event and bashed his head into the yoke to get amped up. He ended up sustaining a cut on his forehead and had blood streaming down his face. But the wound ended up opening up again and again and he had to pull out of the competition by the third event.
That was very unfortunate to say it nicely, especially since his wife and young child were with him to watch and I bet he felt pretty bad about the whole thing.

I actually don’t have much time to lose so let’s get back to it!

1 btn split jerk
3 @ 120 kg
2 x 3 @ 125 kg

2 axle push press (beltless)
4 x 8 @ 85 kg

3 axle incline bench press
3 x 6 @ 85 kg

4 lat pull down
5 x 12 @ s12

5 3-way-trap raises
5 x 10 @ 5 kg

Good enough work today.

I have 3 weeks of training before I go on vacation. That will include a 4 day hike in Sweden and very little training for almost 2 weeks. Also I will have a hike every week now as part of my training and maybe lose 2-3 kg body weight to prepare for Sweden. After that I will have 4 weeks to prepare until the next comp (20.07.) and then an exciting comp three weeks later (10.08.). So things will be exciting and a bit stressful!

20.07. Will be a team competition.
So far I know that they will do a tandem truck pull without hand rope, a tandem elevated axle pull and atlast stones.

10.08. Doesn’t have weights disclosed yet but events are:

  1. Natural stone to shoulder for max.
  2. Axle clean and press for reps
  3. Yoke into 2 sandbags over yoke
  4. Husafell sandbag carry for max distance
  5. Power stairs.

Will be a tough one and I’m traveling to the Netherlands for it.

Then it’s likely gonna be 1 or 2 comps in September to finish.

1 deficit deadlift (wl bar; 3.5 cm deficit)
5 x 5 @ 175 kg

I was definitely feeling the contest here. Especially the hammies. But got it done

2 atlas stone to shoulder (spray tacky)
10 x 1 @ 103 kg

Started as EMOM but was continued as E2MOM after 6 mins.

3 chest supported db row
4 x 12 @ 25 kg

4 bicep curls
2 x 25 @ 7,5 kg

very light for the elbow

5 behind the back doh hold
2 x 30 sec @ 100 kg

Could have probably waited a week longer with the stone. It did cause some discomfort for the back.

The events for the team competition on the 20th of July are out:

  1. Axle press (clean once and press away): 100 kg in 2 minutes.
  • I assume it will be total reps in 2 minutes. Like I do reps and set the bar down, then my partner goes and so on. Very very good event for me!
  1. Tandem truck pull, ca. 17 tons
  • done with harness but no hand rope.
  1. Tandem axle deadlift 430 kg, 14" bar height. In 1 min.
  • not looking forward to this one.
  1. Carry medley: 250 kg frame and 260 kg yoke for 20m.
  • I would probably do yoke and my partner frame.
  1. Atlas stone: 120 kg over 1.20m in 2 min
  • tacky allowed, set up like in wsm stone off I assume.

I like the event selection generally. The weights are very doable and they overlap in part with what I will have to do 3 weeks later in Holland. At least the axle and yoke.

Ancient German warriors - maybe it doesn’t translate

Aaah yeah I didn’t make the connection. Especially because we still have Franken or Frankenland and therefore Franks to this day. It is a region in northern Bavaria, inhabited by almost 5 million people. But not a federal state.
That’s why I got a bit confused.

It was a tenuous link at best, my German knowledge is a little thin.
