20.05.
1 btn split jerk
3 @ 130 kg
2 @ 135 kg
3 @ 135 kg
2 x 0 @ 142,5 kg
1 @ 142,5 kg
Split jerks were a shit show today. May need to take it a bit easier.
2 axle push press
4 x 8 @ 92,5 kg
3 axle incline bench
3 x 6 @ 85 kg
4 lat pull down
5 x 12 @ s13
5 3-way-trap raises
4 x 10 @ 7,5 kg
1 x 10 @ 5 kg
Fatigue is real, pace is high. But Sweden will serve as a lifting deload so it might eventually all work out hopefully, haha.
21.05.
1 tall block power clean (just below knees)
10 x 2 @ 92,5 kg EMOM
Really proud of my technical progress here. I am now doing all reps with a hook grip, no wrist pain and I am using my knees and hips to catch the bar.
2 deficit deadlift (3,5 cm; wl bar)
5 x 3 @ 190 kg
Gritty. Weight is fine but feels like a rep is taking forever with the added distance. Also the sets add up, haha.
3 sandbag to shoulder
3 @ ca. 80 kg
2 x 3 @ 107 kg
Alternating this with atlas stone
4 chest supported db row
3 x 12 @ 27,5 kg
5 behind the back doh hold
2 x 40 sec. @ 100 kg
6 hammer curls
3 x 12 @ 15 kg
Long session. Liked it.
The event weights for my 10th of August have been released.
1 natural stone to shoulder
2 min time cap to shoulder the heaviest stone possible.
2 axle clean and press (clean every rep)
110 kg in 75 sec.
3 yoke into farmer’s walk
300 kg + 125 kg for 15m each
4 husafell sandbag
140 kg
5 power stairs
160, 175, 190 kg 75 sec. time cap.
Heavy but doable, I think. No idea about the sandbag. If we have to pick it up from the ground, it’s gonna be tough.
Do you try as many as you can in the 2 mins, or just select the weight you want, or multiple attempts like weightlifting ?
Apparently there gonna be a number of stones laid out and the heaviest you shoulder will be counted. So you can secure a lighter stone and try a heavier one after or try a heavy one and go down in weight if you fail. Only one stone will be counted at the end
That atleast make the competition a strategic one.
Indeed! Also kinda hard to prepare for this without knowing the shapes.
23.05.
1 axle clean and press
10 x 1 @ 105 kg EMOM
On the last set I did 6 presses with more in the tank.
Pleased with this. Much better than last week and conditioning is improving.
2 paused btn split jerks
3 x 3 @ 112,5 kg
3 seated btn press (no back support, full rom)
3 x 8 @ 52,5 kg
4 pull ups
6 x 3 unassisted
2 x 6 assisted blue band
5 face pulls
5 x 12 @ s5
6 kneeling triceps extension
2 x 10 @ s4
1 x 15 @ s4
Another great session! Got some great momentum rn. Kind of sad that that will come to a halt because of the vacation but then again it won’t throw me back that much realistically.
24.05.
1 front squats
3 x 5 @ 110 kg
Easier than expected.
2 14" axle deadlift
3 x 5 @ 195 kg
Makes a little more sense than SLDL, I suppose.
3 yoke carry
3 x (2x10m) @ 256 kg
10 m drop and turn, 20 m total per set
Good session. Nothing much to report.
27.05.
1 btn split jerk
2 @ 120 kg
2 @ 130 kg
2 @ 140 kg
2 @ 140 kg
Fail @ 145 kg
1 @ 145 kg (left side loaded to 1475, and right to 142,5 lol.
Fail @ 142,5 kg
I’m not too worried about the shape I am in here rn because of all the comps. But I need to be reasonable now and scale this back and then step on the gas again once the comps are done and dusted. Yeah, time to take it easy here and build a base again.
2 axle push press
3 x 8 @ 100 kg
3 axle incline bench press
3 x 6 @ 87,5 kg
4 lat pull down
5 x 12 @ s14
5 3-way-trap-raises
5 x 12 @ 5 kg
Not a good session, not a horrible one. Just a session. Adjustments need to be made but this is the last training week bwfore my hiking vacation anyway, so it’s fine.
28.05.

40 sec @ 100 kg
6 db hammer curls
3 x 12 @ 17,5 kg
Cool to see some strongman style training. Will be following ![]()
Nice cleans, can’t imagine the heart rate spike from those. Are the blocks there to make the lift less fatiguing and/or focus on the jump? Or are there no bumper plates in the gym.
I have a home gym without bumpers so maybe I should get some blocks. Not very flexible so it would be nice for that too. Would be nice to learn to clean better. Do you have any advice for how to avoid hurting the wrists on failed attempts? I felt like I was missing a trick back when I was playing with hang cleans.
Good work, keep it up ![]()
Back looking yoked AF mate. Quality
Welcome to my training log, feel free to ask questions whenever they come up.
Actually the conditioning aspect isn’t really significant right now. It gets the sweat going, but isn’t that exhausting.
Those actually are bumper plates (olympic weightlifting plates). I use the high blocks to have more of a carry over to more strongman-specific hip extension tasks like stone loading or sandbags and therefore want to emphasize the top portion of that lift.
Mine did hurt for a while on cleans due to a) improperly catching the bar and b) lack of exposure to the demand, which will clear up over time (tldr: Got used to it and therefore they don’t hurt anymore). It’s best to start with pretty low weights and gradually progress from there. Additionally it might help to work on the front rack position a bit and when I started doing them more frequently I used a more flecible wrist wrap.
Thanks mate! All the heavy strongman stuff gotta be good for something, eh?
Cheers for the info! I best get going with cleans again then ![]()
I actually do have a question about your cleans.
I worked with CT for a bit (just in a thread), and he had me catch the cleans in a much different position. He used the term “linebacker” position; basically a quarter-squat front-squat position.
But I also saw when you’re doing continental cleans, you do it with a lot of backbend.
Are you deliberately catching your cleans to train that position?
