Per aspera ad astra (strongman Koestrizer)

That sucks dude.

Majorly so. Mainly because of the timing. I have tickets to a festival which I’ve been looking forward to as the main (only) event of my summer holidays. That’s a lot of cash down the drain and a good bit of bitterness too. Also gotta say isolating in a shared living space is not gonna be much fun. So yeah, not feeling too good about it all (besides being sick, haha).

Hope you recover quickly and can still get in some training or movement in.

Damn, really sorry to hear it, real shame about the festival.

Wow apart from the bad timing and my ruined Summer - Covid is doing a real number on me! I was initially optimistic when the symptoms got a bit better from Saturday to Sunday but nope, that shit’s taking me apart. If the aftermath is as bad as the initial sickness, I can practically already pull out of comp.

Negative again as of yesterday but still pretty sick. Will wait a bit before I resume training. Mentally quite down in the dumps tbh.

Sorry to hear that, hope the mental and physical rebound comes soon!

Nothing new, still sick as a dog. Well it’s not that bad, just like a bad cold. With the need for naps. Continuing the garden project at my parent’s house today. That’s the first test for my body. Training will have to wait until next week. I don’t want to risk a heart muscle inflammation or something like that.

Absolutely wrecked me. So yeah, no training on the agenda yet.

Dude when I had it I traded naps with waking hours every hour on the hour for 16-17 hours a day, for 2-3 days. It was borderline structured haha.

118,7 kg this morning. Lost about 5 kg over Covid. Not the means through which I wanted to get here. Feeling flat and like I lost muscle. But also got leaner.

1 log strict press (clean once/ record time)
5 x 5 @ 71 kg - 5.32 minutes

Weight felt dishearteningly heavy. Which should be expected, I guess.

2 high bar squats (record time)
5 x 5 @ 100 kg

No equipment. Assumed a very narrow and quad dominant stance bc my hip flexor was acting up a bit. Like fucking bambi on ice. Legs cramping slightly after 3 sets lol.
14 minutes :see_no_evil:

3 lat pull down
3 x 8 @ stack 12

4 rear delt flys (chest supported)
3 x 8 @ 15 kg

I pulled out of comp. There is no way I would be anywhere near comp shape then. Now the immediate goal is to get back on track. My coach has a sort of post corona protocol that I’m following right now (hence the time recordings and weights at like 60%).

Still when all is said and done I’m very happy to be back in the gym, even under the current limitations.

1 snatch grip deadlift (beltless)
5 x 5 @ 120 kg

in 7.19 min. (Which means I can increase the weight next week). Proper crossfit effort, lol.

2 yoke walk
185 kg x 100m (split up however you like)

Did 5 x 20m in 2.19 min. Setting this up took a lot longer.

3 sandbag to shoulder
10 min EMOM @ 75 kg

Already felt much more capable than yesterday. The weights feel way heavier than pre covid but honestly cardio wise this was probably similarly difficult, haha.

I failed my goal of not drinking alone.
For a shitty reason nonetheless. I had a really … difficult… evening. No idea if it’s going to do emotional damage but it’s hard right now. And I’m drinking a little whisky to calm my nerves. That’s a bad reason to drink and yet I’m doing it.
Just confessing this to be accountable.

While I’m at it I also had two beers the other night but not for shitty reasons.

Everything ok?

That doesn’t feel like a terrible reason mate. People who take painkillers to manage pain don’t have a problem, people who use painkillers to manage life do.

Not really. I’m sure it’s gonna be but I’m hurt. Not in a mental illness kind of way, everyone would be hurt in my place. I’m trying to see the good in it and look forward.

Well a former therapist always said that drinking to manage problems is like the most alarming kind of drinking. That’s where I got that from. I do agree though. Doing it once is probably not that harmful. If I kept it up, it would be an issue.

Thats pretty much my thoughts too. I also think there’s a big difference between drinking a bit of whisky to take the edge off and getting black out drunk.
