Per aspera ad astra (strongman Koestrizer)

Thanks man , you’re making me blush, haha.

29.10.

Haven’t really slept for two days. work stress, cold finally caught me (everyone around me is sick and my flatmate sounds like a dying chain smoker at night). Didn’t feel that bad today though. Well and sitting on the news that my skull may need to be cracked open soon.

So to sum it up: It’s fucking deadlift time!

1 deadlift

3 @ 140 kg
2 @ 170 kg
2 @ 195 kg
1 @ 210 kg
3 @ 220 kg - PR!

This PR was entirely brought to you by hatred and anger. As a tag team, those two triumphed over the physical state of my body, haha.

2 Power jerk
4 x 5 @ 90 kg

3 bent over row
3 x 8 @ 90 kg

4 cyclist squats
3 x 15 @ 70 kg

5 hanging leg raises
4 x 9 @ 2,5 kg

Notes:

  • dat lockout though.
  • well upon review everything but that last lockout doesn’t even look that bad. This would need to be smoother to have 250 but we still have 5 weeks.

Loving the hatred and anger. And I watched that lockout… holy shit.

Holy crap I felt awful today. Nauseous and fatigued and just like death. Apparently I looked even worse. Happy times.

1 block pulls
4 x 5 @ 162,5 kg

2 snatch grip rdl
4 x 8 @ 107,5 kg

3 lat pull down
4 x 12

4 hip thrust (5 sec ecc.)
4 x 6 @ 115 kg

Left it at that because nausea was too much of an issue. I may need to “reduce” work and sleep some more.

All weights moved very easy though.

Strong - that’s wicked dude. Congratulations

Thanks. More to come shortly. We’re now moving on to doubles from here, which would have been coach’s call anyway but I also said even with better conditions I don’t think I have any heavier triples in me.

Also, since that happens so rarely: I had amazing sleep from yesterday to today. Not uninterrupted of course but total hours were a dream, pun intended.

Last days of the golden fall days. Love the colors in this photo.

I actually followed through and called in sick today. Have to see the doc for the note first but I plan on taking tomorrow off as well.

This is not a bad thing. I’ve managed fairly large teams before and burn out is real. And best nipped in the bud.

You can not pour from an empty cup!

True man. It’s not like I’m faking stuff or trying to get out of work, I have noticed some legitimate symptoms, that my brain and nervous system are having trouble keeping up.

Sadly I’m not getting much rest today as I am using this time to catch up on work projects.

Taking sick days from work to catch up on work… Have I won or failed capitalism, haha? I’ll try to finish up today and use tomorrow for full on rest though.

Capitalism has failed. But let us not go down that rabbit hole. I hate having potentially contentious discussions on peoples threads. As if / when it gets into an argument - it is on someones training thread.

You are a smart guy so you’ll know this - but it never hurts to hear it.
Stress changes your hormone profile. Hormones control your whole body. Eating, sleeping, heart rate and pressure, blood sugar and even sex hormones. All 100% effected by stress.

Being stressed all the time is like being massively hung over all the time.
I hope you find a better balance soon dude.

I think that’s the best analogy I’ve ever heard on that topic.

I’ll surely keep trying. Thanks man.

Went to my doc yesterday. Told him upfront that I wanted to get a sick note because I’m so stressed. He had me explain my symptoms and what’s going on currently. When I asked for two days, he said “yeah no, I really think we should make it a whole week”. I was a bit opposed because I have presentations due this week but he wouldn’t have it. Today I’m glad I listened to him and I know he’s right. He also gave some helpful tips on what to ask as a follow up regarding my adenoma situation (he happens to be an oncologist). Great doc, I gotta say. So I’m trying to get as much sleep and relaxation in as I can, while doing some work to get it off my back but not too much so that I don’t use this down time.

1 oh squats
4 x 6 @ 60 kg

2 deadlift
3 x 5 @ 185 kg

3 power jerk
6 x 2 @ 105 kg

4 Seated cable row
4 x 12

5 db windmill
3 x 10 each @ 20 kg

Notes:

  • the deadlifts might be a volume PR but I lost track of that rep range. Felt powerful. At least 3 reps in the tank on each set.
  • boy three nights of decent sleep and two days of no work and I do feel the difference already! I feel so much better after this workout and throughout the day compared to my half dead state.

Good to see you decompressing a bit mate.

I don’t have anything smart to say, just that I’m glad you’re feeling better.

I hope you get to decompress soon yourself, mate. What I did here is no long term solution but a good intervention to prevent things from getting out of hand.
